Super Smash Bros Ultimate (SPOILER Thread)

@Shadao Hmm... Lord only knows how much I've used Ness in the past (and by that, I mean "the past 12 hours") for similar purposes - in particular, any spirit that is said to favor using blasters or energy-based projectiles is easy fodder for camping with PK Magnet on.

That said, I typically favor Ness over Lucas (I find the latter's smash attacks too cumbersome, plus I've had a lot of practice sweet spotting the former's attacks) - is there anything about Lucas in particular that makes him better suited?

If we're talking about first-party characters that would completely surprise pretty much everyone, the one that most immediately comes to mind would be Alex Rovias. Granted, part of this is due to the entire mess with Dennis Dyack, but Nintendo does own all the rights to her (and the others in the game), so if they were to completely fake everyone out, they could include her (on the same theory as "hey, Bayonetta and its sequels are all M games, too").

A weird possibility would be any of the wrestlers from Pro Wrestling. I'd most like either The Amazon or Starman. A Winner Is You!

Oh, one that would really be a stretch memory - the title character of Adventures of Lolo (with Lala being one of his alts). A bit strange considering the Eggerland games were semi-folded into Kirby, yes, but it'd be neat to see HAL call back to one of their earliest titles (although technically, this would be second-party, since HAL owns all of Eggerland games outright, and Nintendo had to license them). And in terms of the challenge of making a moveset, hey, they made one for Pac-Man.

Finally, one of a more recent vintage would be Professor Layton. Currently running franchise (though this admittedly wouldn't matter much for a first-party game), fairly popular character, and if Capcom could figure out how to make Phoenix Wright work for a fighting game, then Nintendo could figure out Layton. For that matter, due to their previous crossover, it'd be hilarious if both Wright and Layton got into Smash and were announced at the same time (though unlike in Marvel vs. Capcom, I'd want Phoenix's Final Smash to be Psyche Lock related).

Also, while I certainly wouldn't demand or even expect it, it'd be absolutely hilarious if, after announcing the five DLC characters for the Fighter's Pass, Sakurai suddenly announced that Waluigi was a surprise sixth character added to it for free (if you already got the pass). That would be the most epic Trolling Creator moment ever. Yes, it would mean that Sakurai overworked himself and gone above and beyond for the fans... which kind of is his MO.

if we are going to get an assist promoted to playable, I think it's just going to be a different dlc pass with a few playable characters getting assists as well. like maybe isabelle, ridley, little mac etc. Because some characters, like skull kid, isaac, shadow, krystal, waluigi ,bomberman, alucard etc. are really big names that deserve to playable alongside everybody else, it'll be unfair to just pick just one out of all the assists to be playable. on top of that, they've already made models and animations for these guys so it won't be that hard. And they didn't bother changing robin's final smash so chrom can beat up chrom, so again, I don't think that assists or spirits like rayman,shantea,geno and bandana dee are 100% deconfirmed.

How would everyone feel about Wizzpig being added into the game somehow?

cool, more rareware reps I guess. he could work with his broomstick and people have wanted a "magic broom" character with kamek/ashley. also he could shoot rockets, spill oil shit like that. as for his chances.........unless they're remaking ddk racing, or adding him to mario kart somehow......pretty unlikely compared to other dkc characters like dixie,chunky,lanky,cranky etc. but still a pretty cool idea. I would love to see the ddk racing crew again, but do to them being in a copyright grey area between microsoft,nintendo and rare it'll be a clusterfuck to get the rights to them. much like sora from kingdom hearts (owned by disney/square) or earthworm jim (nobody has given an explanation on who owns him and interplay's ips like fallout have been bought out multiple times by different companies) but wizpig would be cool.

Anyway,more thoughts on Final Fantasy content in Smash Bros,I was thinking for an assist someone like the Magus Sisters

If any further Final Fantasy content were being added, it'd probably be restricted to VII. Summons are also decently represented in the Midgar stage, so an Assist Trophy would probably come in the form of either Sephiroth, one of Cloud's party members (probably Tifa), a Chocobo, or one of the monsters (such as Cactuar, Tonberry, Malboro, etc.).

So I've never played Persona 5...or a Persona game...or even an SMT game. May I ask what Joker's moveset would probably look like? The character looks cool, but as I'm so unfamiliar with him I'm not sure how he'd play.

Are you familiar with Jo Jo, by any chance ? Yeah personas are basically exactly like stands. Lore reasons differ and they are based on human mythology most of the time rather than music bands, but that doesn't change the overall idea.

In terms of fighting prowess, joker's style relies on a lot of flash and style, melee with a knife and a gun to complete the attire, and summoning his persona to beat up things.

joker and the other persona protags are special because they're "wild cards" in the setting of persona, meaning they can hold several personas at once and fuse them to make them stronger. He still has a dedicated persona that's generally associated with him, Arsene, a red winged humanoid horned demon that uses shadow-based attacks. You can expect most of his special attacks to feature arsene or other famous personas (jack frost is the mascot of atlus so I guess we'll see it somewhere.).

By himself he's more or less a Fragile Speedster in spirit to match with the thief archetype, but the wild card means he can be anything he want and then some more with the right team of personas, and stupidly good at it.

Smash apparently isn't too keen on having basic handguns in it (snake and bayonetta for example don't use any of them despite them being pretty heavily featured in their games.) soooooooooo I'm not expecting joker to actually use it, which would leave us with a knife nut summoning stands to fight.

Persona has this mechanic where if you hit an enemy's weakness you can attack again in a row, and if you hit the weakness of every present enemy, you do a team attack called all-out attack. You can reasonably expect that to be his final smash. The other option would be pulling spoilers and summoning the evolution of his usual persona that all protagonists acquire late in their games. in which case, if you want a slight spoil with no context,Expect to see the personification of lucifer coming down the sky to shoot at your opponents with a skycraper-sized barrel gun

I'd appreciate some more Final Fantasy content from characters that had actually been on Nintendo systems, but I don't really know who's popular enough. I do know that a Kain assist trophy that leaps off the top of the screen and then comes down like a comet would be awesome, though.

also cloud entering a stage via riding a chocobo/his motorcycle would be WAAAY more preferable than doing the "generic superhero landing" it must be a bitch on cloud's knees too.......

I have to laugh at the fact that even Final Fantasy SPIRITS are limited to just Cloud. Not even the summons that are already in the game. That is like Mr. Krabs level of stinginess.

yeah, hence why I think if square is going to put in the bar minimum, not even giving cloud an assist, I don't think we gonna get dlc from them unless it's geno, which has a very slim chance of happening.

Stands and Personas are essentially tulpas/imaginary friends that can fight.

Okay so tl;dr for persona : they're demons you can summon to fight at your side.

Less short version : The setting of persona runs a lot on the collective human unconscious and jungian psychology. Everyone has a shadow, aka the part of us we repress and refuse to accept. There's also more minors shadows formed from our fleeting negatives emotions that makes up the bulk of the enemies of the game.

A Persona is the result of taming one's own shadow (the process varies depending of the game : Talking it out and openly accepting your shadow, manifesting the will to rebel against the injustice of society, the sink-or-swim reaction caused by pointing a gun at your head and pushing the trigger...) and as such you become able to use it to defend yourself from shadows. From there, expect things to escalate quickly and end up in a final where you kill the personification of a concept such as humanity's personified desire for order (shin megami tensei loves that) or death.

So yeah, expect joker to basically summon his Superpowered Evil Side and send it to kick asses for him.
