Man, I thought I could take a break from Arcarum after getting 200 astras for my envoker. Totally forgot you need 6 more for uncaps.

Cygames, I have a question for you: Do you really think you can love me and spit my eye like this?

So a bit of context: I've finished the second, mini-arc? Sub-arc? Of Dawning Sky, where we found out that not only is Adam still alive, more on that in a moment, but that Freesia, that great villain from the first arc, was actually just acting out of unrequited feelings for Orchis' mother.

Because the concept of "moving on" is alien in this world, apparently.

This is what, the third time they pulled this one? And with somehow less effort each time: this wasn't foreshadowed from the last arc, far as I can remember, but just dumped on our head in a single throwaway line when she's tripping.

Because the concept of therapy is also alien in this world.

And it was completely unnecessary because Freesia was already a good character, an arrogant, entitled megalomaniac so full of herself she feels sencirelt believes she has the right to rewrite history out of some twisted sense of patriotism. See, that's cool.

A womanchild who wants to pull off a Thanos because having enough self-love to stop pining after someone who doesn't reciprocate is apparently too much effort, is not.

So let's recap: first, you ruined a perfectly good character arc at the climax of the first arc, check; then you ruined a perfectly good Heroic Sacrifice by briging Adam back, check; and now you ruined a perfectly good villain by turning her into a 16-years-old who still hasn't figured it out how to let go of a crush, cinnamon chex with sausage on the side.

So, Cygames, in the immortal words of Captain Nascimento: Eu não sei que vontade é essa que você tem de fazer merda.

At least General Mustache is back. Now that's a fun character, love what they did with him.

BTW, I suspected that the writers had no idea where to take the plot after the Evil Empire business was done, and this confirms it.

It feels like we regressed back to the beginning of Girl in Blue, where the plot is just a series of unconnected vignettes with little in the way of an actual main goal.

Oh well, at least Sturm and Dramg are back, yas!

You know what'd be nice?

After sacrificing all of your social life getting every Eternal, you unlock a quest to pick up a costume that's basically a fancier Super Saiyan Blue, right?

Well, why not have a costume based on the Super Saiyan Rosé, unlocked when you pick up all the Evokers? And in the art, instead of looking like an angel descending from the sky (and looking suspiciously like Lucifer's story art), the Captain emerges from the bowels of the Earth, Vermithrax-style, bathed in reddish-pink light.

Apologies for the double post: I just did my token 10-draw on the Flash Gala and got Earth Eusteace, Dark Wulf and Raine and Light Hallessena.

Any opinions on how each of those play?

Wulf and Renie are a top-tier Dark attacker because unlike other characters that also have the always multiattack passive, their stats aren't chopped in half as a penalty and don't fall as far as behind in the damage department like most of the duo characters. There's some pretty amazing buffs with their 1 and 2 so they don't require too much support from other party members.

Every version of Halle is basically just have a tank or someone to draw aggro away from her for most of the battle and she'll pump out insane amounts of damage after enough turns have passed to let her ramp up.

Read Light!Sara's Fate Episodes and goddamn the last third was cathartic as hell

I do agree that this feels a lot more like a MLB storyline, but on the other hand it's pretty much the culmination for Sara's arc in the same way as Grand!Vira or Earth!Vaseraga where nothing will quite peak as well as this moment.

For those who picked them up, which Evoker is best to work torwards, gameplay-wise? I want to pick them all up eventually but I'd rather start off with the ones that are easier to use.

Depends on the niche you're looking for, this write-up took way too much time to write.

  • Alanaan (the Sun) is mainly geared towards Fire Enmity and/or bursting through the boss, his 1 is a field effect that lowers defense, raises attack, and gives critical hit buffs for both enemy and ally, his 3 inflicts local Atk and def down/Petrified plus a debuff for both sides that lowers HP every turn, but his 2 is 4 turn Guaranteed Triple Attack + bonus dmg for the low low price of every party member's 100% CA bar which is insanely broken with the right grid. To compensate for making the party a Glass Cannon, his Upright buff is a permanent def up + drain.
  • Fraux (the Devil) on the other hand is the Fire Evoker for long fights; she's got heals + clarity, dispel to take care of enemy buffs, a local debuff akin to Paralyze, the ability to extend local debuffs, and they're all damage skills. Her Upright buff lets her damage skills activate twice, essentially giving her double the heals/damage/dispel.
  • Katzelia (Judgment) revolves around support and CA bars; he's the only Wind character who gives party members 30% CA bar with the bonus of CA buffs attached to that, his CA gives Earth dmg reduction + all elemental damage converted to Earth, his 1 consumes 30% of everyone's CA bar every turn in exchange for a special Def Up, and his 3 consumes 30% of his bar for a special substitute buff. His Upright buff gives everyone permanent Uplift/Healing Cap up.
  • Estarriola (Temperance) is probably the weirdest and most niche because he's asleep for basically 80% of his time in battle. His gimmick is he can't attack while he's asleep and instead activates his damage skills whenever a certain condition is activated. After getting 9 stacks of Forbidden Magic (gains one every time he uses a skill), he wakes up but then goes right back to sleep after using his CA. He's kinda like a hybrid of DPS/buffer/debuffer.
  • Maria Theresa (Justice) mainly revolves having Dispel at hand because her passive converts any Dispel skill into a nuke that inflicts a debuff (Stackable Atk/Def down if in the backline, Unrighteousness if in the frontline) and her Upright buff requires Unrighteousness to get any usage from it. Like Justice, her 2 will balance party HP and CA bar to be the same number but unlike Justice it's based on whichever party member you pick. This leads into her 3, a unique atk buff that heals everyone to full and clears all debuffs as well which can only be used if everyone is in the red.
  • Haaselia (the Moon) is very straightforward as a support character. Her 1 is a Delay that also inflicts a special debuff (enemies' special attacks have a chance of missing). Her 2 is to give one ally Mirror Image/Shield/Invulnerable/Veil. Her 3 and CA are atk buffs plus CA bar.
  • Lobelia (the Tower) is the most click-heavy Evoker because unless you get his Upright buff of having 10 Magic Crests, his 1 will be clicked on a lot in order to build those up. And they're needed for his 2 (speeds up skill cooldown by 3 turns for 5 Magic Crests) and his 3 (gives everyone a special buff where damage is inflicted every time a skill is used for 10 Magic Crests).
  • Caim (Hanged Man) is more niche out of the two Earth Evokers. His 1 resets all skills instantly. His 2 mimics a skill an ally used and after doing that, it has a different use by giving everyone all of Hanged Man's buffs. His 3 depends on whether the last skill used was damage/healing/buff/debuff and acts correspondingly. Also he has a unique backline passive where if all weapons in the grid are different, the party gets a special boost and damage cap.
  • Geisenborger (the Star) is a Light tank. The way he tanks is to soak up all damage and cling on to life with his 3, a special buff that lets him withstand dying but kills him if it ever expires. It can be extended if a buff or healing skill is used. Also he's the only character in the entire game who can quadruple attack.
  • Nier (Death) is sacrificial in a similar way where she's a ticking clock towards her death with every passing turn and her skills encourage her dying faster in exchange for her buffs. However, her Upright buff does give the party an auto-revive where she'll probably go right back to what she was already doing. Grand!Ferry's auto-revive is often used to babysit her in order to sustain her through long fights.

I highly advise you to just pick whichever one you like the most first. Especially as a newer player, you will not be getting them for quite a while. Let alone all of them. That's at least a year or two commitment.

I myself went with Nier and I've really loved using her. She's usable without Grand Ferry, but she makes her so much more powerful.

As for me, I choose my first Evoker mainly due to the Waifu factor.

She Yandere, she catgirl, she cute, she Cry Cute in her uncap art, she has skirt, Shes Got Legs, she eyebags, she depressed, and she Sakura Matou

I mean, look at this avatar pic...

But boy for the gameplay factor, I am actually surprised when it seems that Cygames now tries to push the Dark Meta away from Zooey in favor of Seox and Nier. So uh somehow, my decision of choosing Nier first can now be justifiable outside of the waifu meta.

  • Death is useful for bringing in an ally from the back. At turn 1 (if you are using the Dark element), you can sacrifice one unit to summon Nier already for her Thristing effect and other skills.
  • You'll need a way to heal/revive your team if you constantly find your Dark team dying in HL raids.
  • The recent sought-after Dark Grand FLB (Fallen Sword) gives Stamina, and Nier can heal her team with a lifesteal effect.
  • One of the sought-after M2 Weapons for Dark is the Avatar Staff, which boost Charge Attack specs. Nier can deal increased CA the lower her Love's Redemption stacks are.
  • Another recent Dark Grand FLB (Unheil) boosts Charge Attack specs.
  • Nier is strong as she can give team echoes (bonus damage instance) in her S1 and Death can give guaranteed teamwide TA (She also has one-ally TA in her S2). Attack button FTW, you don't need to click a lot of stuff. Her CA Reactivation on S3 is also perfect for Dark units with nice stacking CA effects or absurd CA damage.
  • The recent Proving Grounds weapon has a synergy with Nier/Death since every Third attack gives bonus damage, and they are good sources of guaranteed TA.

With Great Power, Comes Great Motivation

granblue_en is translating some Dragon Knights interviews and Yuki Ono's proposed scenario for Dark!Lancelot definitely feels like LanVane fanfic fodder.

Ono: There should be something that gives us a good reason to have a Dark Lancelot. In order to fight a new enemy, he’ll have to draw strength from his inner darkness. Once he’s swallowed by that darkness, he’ll never be able to return… but then there’s a scene where Vane holds Lancelot tight in his arms and yells “Lancey, you’ve always been… you’ve always been my light!” and Lancey will get access to both Light and Darkness.

also Cygames released a version of Percival's GBVS trailer where Vane does the narration, it's quite something

No, looks like it's meant to be a super risk/reward thing - the same effect gives guaranteed triple attacks and 1% max HP bonus damage to all your party members. Still, looks like a great way to help screw your entire raid over.

It's been fun.

is there any other game composer this addicted to a mobage??

also it's interesting to hear that he works on GBF music even abroad

I will also say... wow. I don't think I buy this event. It's good that You was rescued, but a letter saying 'hey, sorry we let you get tortured, starved, and beaten for your entire life, here's a tiny hole for you to escape out of so your starved ass can live off of bugs in the forest, lots of kisses mum and dad'? Yeah, forgive me if I don't find that acceptable.

It's been fun.

This event's pacing was really wonky but it also gave Kou 200% more screentime, so I think it balances out. The tone is definitely all over the place since we go from serious threat and Kou being depressed -> Socie *gasp* cheating at a drinking game (which I admit made me laugh pretty hard) -> wacky hot spring hijinks -> fighting Ninetails -> dump all of You's backstory in one chapter -> ending.

IMO Siegfried's event had more gravitas and pathos to it because everything is incontrovertible; Siegfried being framed for Josef's death and losing his mentor, the constant uprisings and civil wars, Hagen's resentment and interference, Gunther's family dying, and Gunther seeking death for himself. Siegfried has to make peace with these facts and that even though he knows who's at fault for each incident, it can't change the past. Whereas here, everything is pretty much fixed in fifteen minutes at the end and reverts back to mostly how it was when they were starting out.

And I wanted to see more Successors dammit, it seems all the treasures have finally been revealed but we still don't know about 5/9 of the families. You on paper is a compelling antagonist, but the timeline feels hella contrived (in the same time it took for her to be condemned and escape to somewhere else, everything with Kou went down and Ninetails immediately hops over to the other warm body) and isn't quite as explored as I liked. Her best bit is when she doubts how much was Ninetails and how much was her because that ambiguity is legitimately intriguing.

idk, I think the preview's hint at a second part, no matter how small this Fate Episode is, kinda gave me too high expectations for this. Also there weren't any special CGs so far, which I find pretty disappointing.

I did find it funny that the Captain just casually holds off Ninetails for almost the entire ending because it makes clear what their writing priorities for any given section are.

on a last note, "I'm all ears" [lol] okay clearly someone on the tl team recognizes Erune ear length is getting wildly out of control
