edited to add this information, since this is going to be a long clean-up

"Donald Trump, as with any other current political figure, should not be a subject of any trope example on the wiki, except:

  • When the work in question specifically mentions the RL individual.
  • When the entirety of the example has to do with the portrayal of that individual in the work.
  • When the work is fictional.

All three of these must apply.

Alternatively:

  • When the RL individual has a creative role themselves, such as writing or acting in a work. In this sense we give them no more nor less treatment then we would any other creator.

Additionally, please make sure to take out any examples of "Funny Aneurysm" Moment, Harsher in Hindsight, or Hilarious in Hindsight regarding these political figures. A political event that may be seen positively by some people may be seen negatively by others.

We're starting with the wicks to Donald Trump (There were 751 of them at the starting point of this count.)

Wicks have already been checked and cleared up to

2/14/17 Inherent in the System

Given the current political climate, talking about Donald Trump on this Wiki is a very sensitive topic and pretty much any comment on him could easily end up violating the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment. I talked it over on Ask a Troper and a moderator gave me permission to start this topic. I feel it will be necessary to make sure any mention of him is safe and avoids politically charged or biased opinions. Right now, we need to stick to facts, not opinions.

From Legends of Tomorrow S4 E15 "Terms of Service"

  • Neron's fear-mongering is one to both Donald Trump and trying to get people to sign their souls to him via terms of services of an app presented a tech expo is one to Silicon Valley in general and Steve Jobs in particular.

Yeah or nay?

Already been rewritten to not mention anyone in particular, think that version's fine:

Neron's fear-mongering is a very unsubtle analogy to anti-immigrant sentiments. That Mona and Zari, both second-generation Americans, end up as the centerpiece of his efforts, just drives the point home. Zari being subjected to a literal witch hunt sports some ugly similarities to Islamophobia as well.

Still quite political but it is an unsubtle analogy.

Much better.

Found this on The Adventures of Pluto Nash:

  • "Funny Aneurysm" Moment: At one point in the movie, Pluto tries to bribe someone with money that has Hillary Clinton's face on it, seeming to assume (as many people did) that she would eventually be elected president. Clinton would ultimately lose her second attempt at the Presidency in 2016, in what is widely considered to be one of the bitterest and most vitriolic election campaigns in modern history, and remains EXTREMELY controversial to this date.

Should I cut it?

RE Arch-Enemy: I'm having trouble seeing why that shouldn't be NRLEP. It's a characterization trope wherein one is The Hero and the other is at least The Rival, but the description focuses pretty heavily on the villainous aspects of the enemy. I think I'll take it to the NRLEP thread tbh...

A couple of examples on OvershadowedByControversy.Music are based on the backlash faced by some musicians for endorsing Donald Trump and feature some negatively-charged wording.

  • Azealia Banks burst onto the music scene in 2011, when her debut single "212" earned critical raves and positioned her to be one of the next big things in hip hop. However, since then she's become far better known for her crass and confrontational behavior on social media and real-life violent incidents than she is for her music. Noteworthy incidents include her accusing Bill Cosby's alleged rape victims of lying, getting into feuds with numerous other artists, making more than a few deranged rants about race relations, publicly endorsing Donald Trump's incredibly controversial presidential campaign despite his deep unpopularity with the African-American community, continuing to work with Dr. Luke even after the Kesha lawsuit came out, throwing homophobic and racist slurs at anyone she got into fights with (notably former One Direction member Zayn Malik, whom she referred to as a "curry-scented bitch" and implicitly threatened with violence by making reference to smuggling firearms into the UK, which got her kicked off of a festival bill and earned her a lengthy suspension from Twitter), getting into physical altercations with flight attendants twice, her concert in Dublin that ended with her spouting numerous anti-Irish remarks, and bleaching her skin. She's been kicked off at least three social media platforms, and her musical career has suffered as a result since no one wants to work with her or book her in concerts anymore.

  • Though Kanye West's reputation was never exactly spotless, in early-to-mid 2018, he attracted backlash after posting several pro-Trump tweets along with a picture of himself wearing Trump's controversial "Make America Great Again" cap. This was a deep problem as Trump is overwhelmingly unpopular among the African-American community, which also makes up a large chunk of rap and hip-hop artists. To make matters worse, he then made comments implying that he considered slavery a choice, suggested the abolishment of the 13th amendment, which abolished slavery, had a cringe-worthy meeting with Trump in the Oval Office, and made an announcement that he plans on running for president in either 2020 or 2024 (though said announcement predated the aforementioned events). This caused even those who tolerated West to turn their backs on him.

I would question whether those are even examples of the trope, since people here tend to over-interpret Trump's influence. We do have an Overshadowed by Controversy clean-up thread here, which I suggest you go to about this.

At any rate, the negativity and Wall of Text elements of those examples should be cut out or trimmed down.

There is this example in The Simpsons

The references to "bad" tropes should be removed, but could this still count as a legitimate example? Since the idea that Trump would be president was ludicrous at the time the episode is made so, regarless on your opinion, is still kind of funny.

Just cut this from La Résistance.

  • Hamas in Palestine, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Northern Alliance in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, as well as the Iraqi resistance after the 2003 invasion. The first four organizations alternate between being La Résistance and a de-facto government. In case of the Muslim Brotherhood, they were de-jure government too until the Egyptian military stepped in again.

Due to the polarizing nature of those groups, especially with Hamas' and Hezbollah's involvement in the Israeli Arab conflict, I do not believe that keeping this example is in the best interest of this site.

For similar reasons, I would hesitate to list the Irgun as La Résistance, due to the fact that Israel is a polarizing issue.

It wasn't a valid example anyway since it didn't explain how the organizations in question were La Résistance.

Found this on YMMV.Aladdin 2019.

  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: The villain is obsessed with turning Agrabah into a militaristic country with heavily defended borders, and is opposed by a woman struggling to break into a highly sexist system that expects her to simply look pretty and say nothing. It doesn't take much stretching to connect it to America's political situation at the time of release.

It doesn't mention any real people by name, so I'm not 100% sure this example is referring to Hillary Clinton vs. Donald Trump, but it still feels a tad suspicious.

I say it DOES requires a lot of streching to connect it. Without names it seems like shoehorning, specially since I don't know of any specific battle between a militaristic leader and a specific woman in the US (it says "at the time of release" which is this year.)

I feel like if the negative examples of Trump should be removed, then so should the positives. It’s quite bias and it can also invite racist/sexist remarks if all the positives about Trump stay.
