We didn't know we had to choose between Nohr and Hoshido until well after fates was announced.
Granted, they might have been trying to downplay One Game for the Price of Two.
Bleye knows Sabers.Pick Japan, Shithole English country, and or the golden route aka real game.
Mileena MadnessBesides that decision, the only other real understanding of Fates we had was the hint that the Avatar could turn into a dragon, based off of one scene from its announcement trailer. There really wasn't much to go off of until its next Direct showcase and any footage from E3.
"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadI’m having trouble parsing your meaning. Could you expand?
What X 2 X is saying is that at Fates announcement, all we knew was you pick a side and that the MC could turn into a dragon.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyBut yeah its funny how people have radically different reactions to these stuff. Like to gameexplain guys this seems to be their best e3 ever
My memory's not the most reliable, but I remember the unveiling of Fates only showed the two kingdoms (eliciting cries of I Knew It! because we finally got a Feudal Japan-inspired locale in Hoshido) and some of the characters. One scene was of Azura talking to a character most people speculated to be the Avatar in their dragon form, and that was pretty much it.
I believe we got a little bit more substance narrative-wise in the following months, but most of the details surrounding picking a side didn't surface until around/during E3 2015 for example... , and that was about a week or so out from Fates' release date in Japan. (To wit, Treehouse was showcasing the Japanese version of the game that year.)
So, comparatively speaking, Fates left the fanbase hanging out to dry in terms of information even more than Three Houses did for the most part.
Or, tl;dr: What Airman said.

"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadEven though I wasn't interested in all the games, Nintendo's Direct was solid throughout, except for the Resident Evil 5 and 6 port announcement.
I saw Square Enix's and it dragged occasionally after FF 7 R.
I would say, Nintendo's was the most consistent. I personally feel Nintendo won, but I understand who wins will be a YMMV sort of deal.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Nintendo started off really bad (a Dragon Quest rep for Smash is like anti-hype), but they salvaged it quickly. Solid overall.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I think Square Enix would have won if I was a Final Fantasy fan, which I'm not.
It's been 3000 years…Speak for yourself. I thought Smash getting a Dragon Quest character was pretty damn hype.
This is not the greatest signature in the world, no... this is just a tribute.Umm there isn't anything bad about Dragon Quest rep for real.
I think only reason why people started to hate DQ was because they were like "DQ means Steve gets in smash instead of Banjo!" or something
Dragon Quest's composer is a homophobic jackass.
That said, so is Persona 5's director.
This song needs more love.Dragon Quest is a HUGELY popular franchise that absolutely deserves a character in Smash.
Really? That's a shame. I've liked the few DQ themes I've heard.
I swear, these days everyone is turning out to be racist, homophobic or a homophobic racist.
One Strip! One Strip!Well, with The Hero I can't really even make myself care about him. Having said that, I know a lot of Dragon Quest fans exist and I bet this put a smile on their faces. I was momentarily disappointed due to fearing that this meant there wouldn't be another character announced, but since they did announce Banjo, I'm not really bothered at all.
It's like going to grab dessert and being handed a cherry...only to be revealed that said cherry is meant to go on top of the delicious sundae they're gonna give you.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"Assist Trophy, perhaps?
"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadIt should be pointed out that Dragon Quest is the father of not just JRP Gs, but also RP Gs in general. The original Dragon Quest was a translation of D&D into videogame form.
Final Fantasy may have made RP Gs popular, but Dragon Quest started them.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."So Dragon Quest is to RPGs what Ryu is to fighting games?
@Lord Vatek: While Dragon quest composer is a homophobic jackass, Katsura Hoshino being one is only speculation. There's never been any interviews or any sort of homophobic statements from himself directly.
Watch SymphogearUltima predates Dragon Quest by five years though?

I'm no fan of Hashino or the gross homo/transphobic shit in Persona and Catherine, but Sugiyama is on another level. He actively and openly supports anti-LGBT movements and denies warcrimes. In my eyes, Hashino is potentially redeemable, Sugiyama ain't.

The difference is that Hoshino's issues stem more from being an Unfortunate Implications Acceptable Targets kinda guy. It's juvenile and shitty and backwards, but he doesn't hate them or want them exterminated, he just has a closeminded stereotypical idea of how they are. Meanwhile Sugiyama is a fullblown Heteronormative Crusader (and ultranationalist) which is unforgivable.

Fates’ entire hook was choosing a side, which was publicized fairly early on, wasn’t it?
Frankly, I could never get into Fates. I don’t know much about it.
