At least this time the Lego bit makes a bit more sense, since Lego Harry Potter and Lego Starwars are both two huge lego sub-brand.

Since someone already mentioned the Hero's Journey, I'll just ask if anyone else thought that Luke sounded more like Owen Wilson than Mark Hamill.

And I'm tempted to get into sequel trilogy discourse, but I won't.

I'm watching the original trilogy right now and he really does sound like Owen Wilson more than the Mark Hamill we're used to.

My favorite line might have been the Yoda interplay in the end ("I learned flow from the best in the biz"/ "Get funky!" / "So the end of you this is!" / "mcclunkey!"). It made me want to see a full Yoda rap to see what could be done with his voice and his bizarre syntax (perhaps against another Strange-Syntax Speaker of some kind).

I do think Luke was softballing HP. HP brought the general state of the SW franchise in our world in every one of his bits at least once (saying SW has only two good movies, mentioning the Snoke letdown, prequels Broken Base, J.J Abrams). Luke meanwhile pretty firmly suck to in-universe disses even though commenting on J.K Rowling disastrous post-HP career both in and outside of HP is a piss-easy target (Cursed Child, the mediocre-to-terrible fantastic beasts movies, her bizarre twitter canons about wizards shitting themselves on the street, her inability to make anything successful outside of HP and the raging transphobia).

I thought Harry had the better closer. He should've gone second.

Considering all the shade Harry threw at the Sequel Trilogy, I'm surprised Luke didn't talk smack about The Cursed Child. Or Rowling's... controversial political opinions, for that matter.

That should have been Luke's third verse, where he raps as his cynical assholish self from the sequel trilogy.

Wouldn't that involve acknowledging that the sequel trilogy has good moments?

Yeah it did feel weird how Luke soft-balled on the meta disses while HP went all-in (calling the SW fanbase split, for example, is pretty funny when the HP fanbase itself is nearly as split these days). J.K Rowling's transphobia I was pretty sure they'd never have the backbone of tackling, but I don't know why there were 0 mentions of Cursed Child, Fantastic Beasts (so-far) duology and J.K Rowling's infamously surreal twitter canon confirmations. Don't know what was up with that.

Luke "changing forms" to his old man one in the ST I figured wouldn't happen because ERB tends to only do that when both sides can "phase-shift" (e.g MJ and Elvis, the infamous bruce battle) or when changing forms is a crucial part of a character (e.g The Doctor, Gandalf coming back as White).

[up][up][up][up][up] Her opinions being controversial is probably exactly why they didn't mention them; that's probably a good thing—don't want flame wars in the comments. And yeah, Luke not dissing Cursed Child was a missed opportunity.

[up][up][up][up] Agreed, especially since he wore different outfits from different movies in different verses.

[up][up][up] That would've been amazing.

[up][up] Everything has redeeming traits, even the Disney Trilogy; I refuse to call it the Sequel Trilogy because those movies do not deserve the honor of being called the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.

[up] While the video was mostly equal, it did seem biased in favor of Harry Potter.

your franchise only has two decent movies
Good to know ERB has good taste in Star Wars movies.

All things considered, this probably their best video ever—or at the very least my favorite. I don't see how they can top this.

Okay, here we go.

Force Awakens is better judged as a reimagining of A New Hope than as a revival.

The Last Jedi's weakest point is how heavily it leans on technobabble for the Finn and Rose plot. I actually liked the ways it decided to step around what Abrams was setting up in Force Awakens for the most part, but I would've liked it more if it was the plan from the beginning to subvert those expectations. Killing off Snoke worked for me in the sense of showing that even without his master actively poisoning his mind, Kylo was already too twisted to change. Rey being special from her choices and not from a lineage of destiny should have stayed.

The Rise of Skywalker: I have not seen this one, but I know that "somehow, Palpatine has returned", and he's Rey's grandfather, and that reveal doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of her arc because it was just added for the big reveal. Despite TLJ's move to say that sometimes people just refuse to change and there comes a point where you have to stop waiting for them. I don't really know who the main protagonist of the movie is because I've heard Rey and Finn were sidelined hard, and I haven't heard anybody say much of anything about Poe. Is it Kylo's movie? It's Kylo's movie, isn't it? Also significantly executive-meddled which may have been a source of a lot of its backtracking on TLJ's nontraditional choices, which just threw a big spotlight on how meticulously unplanned the whole trilogy wasn't and left a bad taste in absolutely everyone's mouth.

The Rise of Skywalker's not interested in normal story conventions like a traditional protagonist. It's more concerned with doing action, action, action, action with no brakes, rhyme, or reason.

[up][up]Not to mention actively trying to undo the controversial developments of The Last Jedi, by making even more questionable/controversial developments.

As for the lack of HP disses, maybe they didn't count Cursed Child because it's not made into film, and therefore not considered Canon? And I'm curious, is the Fantastic Beast series as hated/controversial as the SW Sequels/Prequels? I'm under the impression that the SW fanbase are more... vocal about things, in any case.

From the limited understanding I've gained from reviews for the Fantastic Beasts movies, the first is pretty okay while Crimes of Grindelwald is much worse than the other Harry Potter movies.

The first one was basically met with divisive but leaning to positive reception by the fanbase, the second one was utterly trashed.

Third one is probably in development hell because of that and because Johnny Depp is pretty controversial now, what with him and Amber Heard both accusing each other of abuse.

You let J.J. compact your character to trash.
Rian compacted Luke to trash—or at least did most of the compacting—not J.J.

It's for the J.K.-J.J. parallel.

Also Abrams was an executive producer on TLJ.

@T Paradox: The Fantastic Beasts franchise just has a lot of combined problems. From befuddled fans wondering why you'd pick this Newt Scamander story rather than Dumbledore vs Grindelwald itself, Depp being seen as a terrible choice for the character (even aside his personal issues), representation (asian stereotypes in the second, a questionable segregation metaphor in both), a stupidly offensive Nazi Germany tie-in, a cowardly avoidance of embracing Dumbledore's homosexuality, e.t.c e.t.c

Comparatively speaking I'd actually say the Cursed Child-Crimes of Grindelwald-J.K Rowling bigotry and incompetence coming to the fore three-punch combination has wreaked more havoc with the HP franchise's standing than even the prequels did for SW.

Honestly, them ignoring the author's history only works if they do it for both sides. Them going in on J.J while sidestepping Rowling seems off.

And it's not like they've ever been one to skip out on making fun of authors. The Joker vs. Pennywise battle was like three battles ago, and they went in on King.

Granted the new trilogy did pretty much trash star wars for pretty much a decade to come: forcing a romance between rey and kylo, trashing all the good stuff of the OT, the mishandling of their black chararter......

if anything I will said this rap battle was pretty damn mile.

also, cool im the 1000 post.
