I already have some character ideas, but I wanna know if you think a Rogue/Parasite-like power set is acceptable. As in, being able to leech off people's powers and energy. If the answer's yes, calling dibs on that because I have an idea for a gang leader/revolutionary who isn't a hero or a villain but goes against both.

Interested. What's your stance on superpowered armor? A la Blue Beetle?
Oh, and can I call some other superhero fans from another thread to participate? Cause this seems like something they'd like.

Also interested. It'll take me a bit to come up with a new concept though.
@Strat: I'd prefer people make up their own powers instead of something that could change around like that.
@Bean: Power armor is fine (I'm a big fan of it myself - oh, sorry, I got lost thinking about Starship Troopers). Like I said, I'd like to keep the upper limit around mid Super Weight 3 range, and I'm not familiar with Blue Beetle to be able to judge based off of that. If you don't expect to be able to No-Sell just about everything, and don't have Batman levels of stuff you can pull out - like just have a limited and defined set of weapons and stuff, or figure if you want them to focus on offense/defense, long/short/mid range, utility, etc. instead of a veritable Swiss Army Knife of things - and it'll probably be okay.
And dude, you can totally invite whoever you want. I don't have a "No friends of Bean allowed" rule
@Scorpio: No rush. I just posted this like an hour ago, I'll wait a while before starting this to let people fully flesh out their ideas. Also hit us up on Skype.

In this. Gonna use a half-phoenix half-human character. That is to say, a phoenix with a human form. Very hot-headed vigilante.
Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.If I find time this week to get on, I probably will. I think I'm leaning towards someone with powers gained by a magical weapon or something...
I'll post interest. No ideas just yet, but I'll see what I can come up with.
It's been fun.@Nman: Blue Beetle doesn't No-Sell stuff, but he's notarious for having a lot of weapons. I'm talking energy guns, staple guns, sensors, holo-projection, flight... of course I'm going to remove some of the extra-overpowered stuff, but here's an example of what the Blue Beetle can do on the comics. I was planning to do something like that: a multi-use armor with a personality.

I might be interested. I have a few ideas for characters but I'm going to see what other people put.
Okay, I have an idea now. I've got a tiger themed superhero who gets her tiger powers from a mystical Indian Chakram weapon. Sounds cool?
I'd say just make a dude and we'll see. Or if not, wait a day until a few people have made their own signups, so you have something to compare to. Having a full armory and being able to pull out a whatever device for any situation is too much. It's a trick to make sure they have enough stuff to not be left behind, but not too much stuff to the point where they have no real constraints.
Needs more Bon Jovi Sure, why not?
Declaring interest too. I have a few ideas floating around from, among other things, the old World of Heroes days.
The idea I have for the armor is that a bunch of scientists from the future (all of them from different areas), angry at the fact they were not being recognized, uploaded their conciousness into a chip which they put into this robot-armor that had a mission to find a better home for them. The robot accidentally got sent back in time, and it found my character, a young historian who, much like the scientsits, feels she isn't appreciated by society of her time. The robot saw her as the better home for the scientists and grafted itself into her body, allowing her to use the armor and to hear the bickering conciousness of the scientists (think the think thanks from New Vegas: Old World Blues and you have an idea of what the scientists are like.)
It's a rough idea, really.
How do you feel about mythical beings? I'm thinking about some kind of Norse Giant who has a case of My People Doth Protest Too Much and is a good guy.
Trump delenda estI think I'm just going to use the same guy I used in Radio City for this one.
"@[=g3,8d]&fbb=-q]/hk%fg"That's all totally fine. I'm not really picky about backstories unless it involves something really just out there, like "My character was the real Jesus, also Buddha and George Washington" or "They are the only reason the universe still exists", which you aren't even close to approaching.
Mythology is fine, as long as it keeps the comic/superhero vibe, and any sort of apocalyptic stuff gets swept under the rug - like Thor or Wonder Woman or whoever manage to do.
Sure, Corvus posts were always interesting to read. Though maybe give him some more pimpery, he sorta got tossed around in RC2112 and I always felt bad for him losing so much.

Hmm. The main idea I was considering may be no good, as it's A) a bit out there and possibly OP and B) might be too similar to Bean's.
On the surface of it she would be another tech-based hero in a battlesuit, who also acts as a Voice with an Internet Connection for the local heroes. She pretends to be a human, but the suit is actually an empty shell being driven by an orphaned AI who's partially hooked into the city's data networks.
It's an idea I admit I cribbed from a web novel I read, but the concept is something I've kinda wanted to try RPing for a while. I'd completely understand if it's not suitable, though. I have other characters I could use.
EDIT: Actually, scrap that. Another idea has occurred to me that wont be so difficult to RP.

Here's my character.
Name: Tiger Carter
Super Alias: Durga
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Category: Hero (designated)
Civilian Appearance: Around 5'5" tall. Long black hair and bright blue eyes. Wear's long sleeved clothing and long pants when out in public. Slightly tanned skin with very dark brown tiger stripes running from her right shoulder to her right ankle. Her hair bangs cover the two stripes on her forehead.
Costumed Appearance: Her hair changes color from black to mostly dark orange with strips of black and is in a braided ponytail reaching down to her back. Her eyes change to an amber color, and her nails turn into claws. She wears a golden breastplate, arm and shoulder guards, and a helmet. Underneath it is an orange tunic, black pants, and open toed sandals. The Golden Disc hangs on a chain belt around her waist.
Personality:
- Tiger is considered shy and introverted, to the point of seeming secretive at times. She dislikes fighting of any kind, but has grown used to inevitably dealing with conflicts because of her alter ego. She genuinely likes helping people, but doesn't like being forced into it. Tiger is passionate about books and history though, and can carry on a long conversation on it.
- Her personality as Durga is a Lawful Good, extremely over the top and passionate warrior. She never backs down from a fight, but is still cunning enough to form a plan beforehand.
Powers and/or Abilities:
- Sharper senses akin to an actual tiger's
- Extendable claws that can cut through iron
- Increased strength and agility to top human condition
- Cat-like jumping skills and excellent balance
- Attracts other felines (in normal form too)
- Striped camaflouge that allows her to be invisible when in the shadows and standing still.
Weakness: Tiger's power is technically a curse, and has downsides to its use. She must transform into Durga whenever evil is being committed and she sees it. If she refuses to comply with the curse within the time period of 30 minutes, she will permanently transform into an actual tiger.
Equipment:
- Golden Disc-A cursed chakram that is rumored to possess
- Striped Armor-An old suit of Indian armor, with a breastplate, shoulder and arm guards, and a helmet with Tiger ears. Decorated with black stripes. It repairs itself when it is not being worn.
Assets: Lives in a nice apartment above the Rail World History Museum, run by her father, Dr. Ace Carter.
Misc: Tiger is highly knowledgable in mythology from ancient civilizations.
Brief History:
Tiger was born in Rail and lived with her archeologist parents until she went to college outside the states at age 18. During her four years at a British University, she went on a field trip to a historical site in India, an ancient temple of the Hindu Goddess Durga. Deep within it, she found a golden disk on an altar.
When she went to pick it up and take it out, it knocked her out for a few hours. She woke up back with the rest of the school group, having been found in the temple on the floor. She was now marked down the right side of her body with dark lines, like a tiger's stripes. After doing some research on the Golden Disc, she discovered that the stripes were a physical sign of the curse of Durga. The power sealed within the disc infected the holder, and forced them to use it to battle evil and injustice. If the call is ignored, the curse would consume the holder and turn them into a tiger. Wanting to stay human, Tiger went back to the Temple in the middle of the night and took the disk back to college. Even since then, there have been reports of an armored tiger-like hero appearing around the campus to stop various crimes, from robberies to stolen parking spots.
A few months before Rail's quarantine, Tiger moved back to the city to live with her parents and help run his museum, taking the time to research her curse further on her days off in hopes of removing it.
- Name:Don Taxton
- Super Alias: Don't Axe Don't Tell
- Age: 40
- Gender: M
- Category: Hero
- Civilian Appearance: Don is a blond guy of medium height, broad in the shoulders. His features are hardened and angular, and he tends to dress in flannel, jeans, and boots—like a lumberjack.
- Costumed Appearance: A red longcoat with a crossed axe insignia on the back, with a shoulder rig over it to hold his axes on his back. The legs, chest, and arms of the costume have lightweight armor plating made from military surplus riot gear, and the chestpiece has the same crossed axes as on the back. The plating is black, and typically Don just wears a white t-shirt and jeans under the armor. As a mask he just ties a plaid bandanna over his mouth and slips on a pair of sound-reducing earphones.
- Personality: Don believes in the power of the common man. He doesn't approve of superheroes whose "power" is just being rich, or being born with a power. He likes to focus his efforts on inner-city or underprivileged areas, but by the same measure he despises people who are overly vicious with political correctness and social justice. To him, violence is a means to an end, and a solid drink, a good fight, or an honest day's work are some of life's best pleasures.
- Powers and/or Abilities: Don't Axe Don't Tell can "delay" all the sound around him, creating a 6 foot bubble of total silence. He must remain conscious in order to maintain the bubble, but can dismiss it at will to unleash all the sound, simultaneously, over the course of half a second, creating a thunderous blast of stored sound, radiating in whatever direction each particular sound came from.
- Equipment:
- A pair of strong, well-maintained, but ultimately mundane axes.
- Armor designed to primarily defend against bladed weapons
- Assets:
- A motorcycle with the muffler removed, sanctioned by the city council to aid in his crime-fighting powers, provided Don't Axe Don't Tell always keeps his power on while he rides it.
- A mid-range house out in the inner city.
- A shelter for the homeless—he only owns it in that he deals with all the bills; he delegates all the work to an assistant when he isn't doing work on the shelter premises as Don't Axe Don't Tell, mostly self-defense seminars of various kinds.
- Misc: Don't Axe Don't Tell has an official Facebook page where users can organize charity events and get-togethers, and where the man himself can answer questions.
- Brief History: Don Taxton grew up poor on a farm an hour or so outside Rail. While they were impoverished and didn't exactly have luxuries, Don learned to cherish what he did have as a result—like a stable family, a home, and the ability to get some good, honest work in. Every month or so they'd be able to go into town, and using the money he could manage to scrape together Don would ride the bus around town to see the super heroes, maybe get an autograph. One day in his late twenties, two supers got in a scrap as he was walking down the street; it ended in a lethal tie, Don got caught in the resulting conflagration of explosive super-powers and woke up in a hospital. For awhile, he thought he had gone deaf, but in time learned to control and release his zone of silence, and realized that this would be his big break—to become a superhero for the common man and take back Rail so that nobody would live in fear!
Interested. I have a freshly made OC who hasnt been used in anything yet. Would small flame balls that follow the user and sometimes fight for him be considered disposable minions?

THUMPED

The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song.Alright, my current idea is a character who can phase through metal and glass - one or the other at a time - as if it's water, with the same slowing effect and so on. I don't have a name or overarching concept just yet, but she'd probably be a safecracker or infiltration specialist.
It's been fun.I'll deal with signups later tonight/tomorrow, so just a couple quick replies.
@Gaunt: That's not out there in the slightest, it seems like it could be fairly entertaining. Though without a signup to look at, which actually lists the powers and stuff, it's not really possible to judge if something is too powerful or not. Try going with your gut.
@Hasame: It's up to you. I should clarify that what I meant about mooks in the signup, and what I am concerned about from previous games, are cases where people had scores of mooks, decided they were all fairly powerful, and wound up tying up way too many other characters in scenes that didn't really drive player character interaction. I'd prefer if most roleplaying interaction happens with/between characters who are going to stick around, and not with a bunch of mooks who are going to be gone in a bit. Having mooks is completely fine as long as you under you understand that they're more like plot devices than protagonists. You can also totally have a few elite mooks or companions (like animal tamer pets, robot buddies, etc.) that are like higher-level NPCs you control.

Rail, the coastal city in Manderson County, Texas. The year is 2020, which is oddly similar to 2014, except that there are superheroes and villains causing havoc all over the country. Plus, 99 supervillains broke out of Blackstone Supermax - a prison in the deserted area outside of the city, designed to house the worst supervillains - last Thursday. President Tron Paul declared the entire county to be under a quarantine to contain the villains, leaving hundreds of superpowered individuals to duke it out, while the mayor, police, military and National Guard do their best to maintain order.
Anyway, so I hate making rules because I like to trust people, but at the same time I feel like I should lay down some laws, so pardon me for Hammurabing it up in here. You can make up to three characters for now, I'll let people have more in the future. And remember, the theme is 'superheros and supervillains', as long as you keep that in mind, and don't make something overly grimdark, you should be okay. But seriously, go crazy with character creation. You can be aliens, cavemen, dinosaurs, talking bunnies, billionaire playboys, astronauts, pirates, vikings, or knights - whatever. Just keep in mind that a roleplay is not about your character being Mr. Superawesome who saves the day, every day, with no flaws and has everything always work out. To that end, it's usually a good idea to specialize in something. Jack of All Stats and Flying Brick heroes and villains are uninteresting, tend to be bullshit in an RP, and I'm going to come down hard on you for those. Powers that are more limited and can be used creatively tend to work better and be more entertaining.
I also highly suggest that you have a theme for your character, and try to pick powers that go with that theme, instead of just making a regular person who just so happens to have superpowers that they use for good/evil, as that gets old fast. As a guideline, the upper limit for powers will be Low/Mid Super Weight 3. Any powers that are not conducive to a collaborative roleplay environment is a flat nope, like mind control, poison, omnipotence, omnipresence, time travel, telekinesis, mind reading someone's deepest secrets, being able to instantly kill someone, power negation, reality warping, or anything that uses the words "cannot escape", "impossible to resist", "cannot be avoided", "causality", or "fraction of light speed".
Another thing I suggest is that you actually like your character's alter ego, not just their mask. If you don't like your character's person, then all sorts of great situations like Loves My Alter Ego, Mugging the Monster, and the like are going to be inaccessible to you. This RP is mostly going to be player driven, with players having tons more worldbuilding and plotting powers than you're used to. You can make up stores, amusement parks, Build-A-Bears, lakes, wharfs, tourist traps, and citizens on the fly if it can help you and other characters progress a scene, as long as you aren't creating NPC supervillains/heroes, large-scale disasters, or controlling NPCs I've thrown into a scene. And while it's okay for your characters to have their own mooks, like if they are a gangster or something, remember that all of their mooks are still just mooks, and the majority of drama and plottery should be driven by your characters, not the mooks. Beastmasters, robot controllers, and the like are sorta in-between, and they can have a few Elite Mooks who are an extension of their character and not so easily discarded.
But don't worry about me being hands-off and letting this thing run away - I'm also going to throw in heroes, villains, neutrals, enraged citizens, police, military, gangbangers, terrorists, robbers, assassins, escaped zoo animals, cultists, Bon Jovi, and whatever else needs to happen to keep things moving, and keep you all on your toes. It's also how I'll deal with utterly lopsided situations that need to be bailed out. By the way, don't be afraid of letting your characters get hurt. You don't have to worry about them nursing a broken limb for sixty pages. As long as a certain scene is 'done', then they can heal in the transition somehow, be it returning to the Batcave, going to the doctor, or rubbing aloe on it.
There's three types of characters you can make: Heroes, villains, or neutrals (A superpowered individual who is otherwise unaffiliated).
But guys, really, remember that at the end of the day, your characters powers, and who wins and loses, is not the most important thing. Being able to have a good time, writing a humorous scene, and getting along with each other is the top priority of this game.
Also I'm not perfect or a genius or anything, and it's completely possible for things to slip through the cracks, so it's important for all of you to let me know if you think something is possibly unfair or could ruin everyone's fun.
NOTE: You can have as many characters as you want (assuming they're approved here, of course) but you can only have three 'active' at any time. So if you have four or more characters, I'll put the extras in the inactive list and they'll be off-screen until you decide to inactivate one of your current characters in order to swap them out.
