Well, I use quotation marks for a reason, they precede that kinda organization by a bit.

Like how Team WTCH isn't called that in-universe, I take it?

All I meant was that calling them RGBY was a handy out-of-setting way to refer to them, much like how Salem's four major agents- Dr. Arthur Watts, Tryian Callows, Cinder Fall and Hazel Rainart- Are sometimes abbreviated to "Team WTCH" because the nomenclature is known within the fanbase and because it's shorter.

Sorry, I just made things more confusing instead.

I sure said that!

S'cool.

Screw it, I'll mention the other Team ideas, actual teams.

Team HART, based on Alice In Wonderland characters:

  • Harley Maddox: Green themed, based on the March Hare and Mad Hatter both. Rabbit faunus whose ears are normally hidden under his hat, a hat that is also his weapon, serving as extradimensional storage for a whole alchemy lab worth of dust concoctions. Uses a strategy of controlled chaos with his team, whereas each one acts without orders in a seamless whole that is meant to appear erratic to outsiders. Normally, he throws down alchemist smoke bombs that confuse all the senses while his team moves about with impunity
  • Alice Blue: I forget who she's based off of or what her color scheme is supposed to be, so let's move on from that. Chunky Genki Girl that wears aura powered armor with an aura empowering semblance.
  • Rufus Snikersnax: Based on the wielder of the vorpal sword, red color scheme. He's a sword and board, reluctant Blood Knight with a density semblance, like Lemon, and sort of built as an anti-Jaune. Family legacy he's reluctant to live up to but happens to be very good at fighting. Not a strategist, just very kill-y. Weapon is a family heirloom that's been upgraded over the generations.
  • TyrianThistle Chester: Girly catboy based on the Cheshire Cat with a purple theme. Invisibility semblance, sticky tasers shaped like cat-faces and a pistol that transforms into a knife when you flip it around like a butterfly knife. So he's the Spy.

The Atlesian Military's Team RFTS, AKA Team Multi-Media. After too many people asked them what their team color is supposed to be, they started wearing purple armbands and explaining: "It's like a spatial rift, those things are always purple." "That's incredibly weak." "That's incredibly shut the hell up." Being mostly Faunus, they are a strange bunch and often used as PR and labelled as race traitors.

  • Rubeus Hadeseus: A giant of a tiger faunus with a red theme and the micromanaging team leader. His "weapons" are a trio of dust enhanced dogs, collectively called "Quatro Cerberus". Their names are Uno, ice, Dos, lightning, and Tres, fire. When needs must, he can inject himself with wind dust and join the fray himself.
  • Faust Forest: The Token Human of Team RFTS. Has a white theme and is a very enthusiastic Blood Knight. When he was young, Grimm ripped off both his arms and so he tried to stab them to death with a knife in his mouth. He has since had them replaced with six cybernetic arms that he uses to punch everything to death. Doesn't know how to salute to Ironwood. His semblance is the opposite of Yang's (and perhaps its perfect counter), building up a "charge" as he causes damage. If and when he ever got into a position to show her a few trick, he'd characterize it as such. "Your semblance pulls victory from the jaws of defeat. Mine puts a stop to those kinds of shenanigans."
  • Taupe Spindle: Crossdressing bunny boy with a gray theme. His weapon is the Paine Train, a Hammerspace purse from which he pulls out any number of explosives. His semblance is nebulous, but the Made of Iron aspect of his aura is above average.
  • Sunny Daiz: Dog faunus girl, the "strong flower" to Taupe's "delicate oak", yellow theme. Between her and Rubeus, these two are the only half of the team that act like they're part of a military unit, herself even more-so. She wears a peak cap and something like an officer's dress uniform. She wields two pistols, fire and ice, and two swords, wind and lightning, that can combine together to each form a unique combination and new weapon. Her semblance is an aura of "courage", bolstering mental fortitude and suppressing negative emotions.

I'm toying with giving this OC team business a shot myself- I'm starting with the names, since I think that'll be the most difficult for me overall.

I want a blue team to start, and I'm trying to decide between Team CBLT (Cobalt) or Team SPHR (Sapphire).

Is each member based on someone else?

It's what I'm very careful in doing myself, to keep in theme and chain the frame work I have to work with.

By the way, is it difficult to guess who/what the various members of Team RFTS are based on?

Honestly, I was gonna kinda go the reverse engineering method.

I was definitely leaning towards a theme once I had a grasp of what I was working with- All I know is I want to avoid the obvious oceanic theme.

Sorry for the double post, but it's been a few days and I've come up with a theme I wanted to share- So, I've settled on the name Team SPHR, and on certain aspects of the members- S is a mostly undecided leader associated with deep blue, P is based on Rapunzel and is associated with hot pink, H is based on Hachikō and is associated with brassy yellow, and R is based on Scheherazade and is associated with pale lavender.

The theme is various figures who represent patience, loyalty, persistence and the like. As far as RWBY-ing up the base concepts... Well, H is gonna have to be a dog Faunus?

In which Kyubey done goofed and is confronted by the two brothers.

And an elephant in the room being addressed that may get an additional chapter if things end up bleak as the end of the latest episode.

Had a random concept idea for a RWBY/Cosmere crossover/fusion.

Basic gist, the RWBY series wih everything running on Cosmere Investiture rules, specifically Mistborn. Remnant was created by the two brothers, Ruin and Preservation, who anihilated each other long ago, leaving the powers of their Shards unattended. In the present day, master Criminal Roman Torchwick is stealing Allomantic Metals from shops all over the city of Vale, when one night he and his men have the misfortune to encounter Ruby Rose, Twinborn Steel Compounder...

Off the top of my head, I could see RWBY's powers being translated as such:

  • Ruby: Twinborn Steel, keeping her Super speed thing.
  • Yang: Pewter Savant
  • Weiss: Full Mistborn. Shut up, it's my fic idea. Besides, it's the only thing to really match the versatility of her power set.
  • Blake: Kolloss-blooded Tin Eye Misting

For JNPR, since people would usually want to know:

  • Jaune: Atium Misting... in a world that hasn't seen Atium in over 2000 years
  • Nora: Pewter/Gold Twinborn
  • Ren: Full Feruchemist
  • Phyrrha: Knight Radiant, Windrunner (She's secretly from Roshar)

Grimm are either cognitive shadows or agents of Autonomy.

I might at best get a single chapter of this...

Random Fic idea: On the way back home from a concert, the Schnee family is attalked by the white fang, leaving a young Weiss the only survivor. Her potential hatred of the WF is cut short, however, when the only one willing to comfort her after the tragedy is a young faunus policeman who lent her his trenchcoat, and the later discovery that their security escort had been compromised by a (human) member of the Atlas military. And so, with this dark tragedy, Weiss Schnee vows to fight all evil in Remnant, human and faunus alike, secretly devoting her considerable resources as the sole heir of the SDC fund her secret vigilante activites!

So, yeah, basically Weiss as Batman.

Please tell me someone already wrote this so I don't have to do it myself?

EDIT: Oh dear. There goes my treacherous, treacherous imagination. Already I'm adding things like Velvet finding a Green Lantern ring, Ruby being the Flash, and Jaune being a Kryptonian. Why does my imagination keep doing this to me?

Ugh, and now Penny is Red Tornado...

Hi, guys. I finished the entire series a couple of weeks ago, and finished the World of Remnant shorts about half an hour ago. Now the time is ripe to delve into RWBY fanfics... which I've already begun by finishing off Remnant's Reclaimer this very day (having started it several days ago). Good read, but definitely needs some work... which the author admits to, but regretfully also stated that it's on an indefinite hiatus and may even be truly Dead.

That being said, my two top priorities in RWBY fanfics are ones that see Penny getting rebuilt, and Pyrrha somehow being returned from the dead (whether as an incorporeal ghost or literally being resurrected)... so long as the second one is not done in a way that ruins the impact and meaningfulness of her death in Volume 3. I am under the impression that RWBY: Destiny of Remnant is one such fic that does the "Pyrrha revived" idea in a not-bad way, but I haven't started reading it yet.

Oh, and if any of you are regular posters in the main thread... Yes, I'll get back to the responses to my last post. Got caught up in real life over the last couple of weeks. Bouts of "minor" illness, familial obligations, sudden guests staying over on the weekends... Story of my life.

[up][up][up][up] An Incubator... as Ozpin. For all the fathomless, blacker-than-black hatred that I hold for that race of white-colored abominations, the idea of one of them being punished by a vastly more powerful duo of cosmic beings in this manner is delicious. Hell, it actually seemed to have learned some valuable lessons that its brethren haven't!

After reading a couple volumes of Goblin Slayer, now I'd really like a fanfic about either canon character or OC who is fixated on hunting down White Fang.

And her backstory is that one of the White Fang's ops ended up either killing her mother, or driving her mother to suicide out of grief (she's an alcoholic, maybe she drank herself to death). Jacques is still alive, though, but he's an Abusive Parent so he doesn't count... and he'd make a good Archnemesis Dad by bankrolling some of the villains on Bat-Weiss' Rogues Gallery without the latter knowing that her loathsome dad is involved until very late in the story. Until then, she just thinks of him as a corrupt corporate douchebag who seems sane/self-respecting enough to not deal with the worst parts of the criminal underground; she has no illusions that he makes use of petty criminals and thugs for his dirty work, though, and in fact routinely interferes in such shady activities of the SDC both on crimefighting principle and because she intends to eventually wrestle the company out of his hands and return it back to the path that her beloved grandfather had it on.

Have not made any progress on my Bat-Weiss idea, so instead I made a fic about Emerald becoming a ward of the Schnee family and going to Beacon. Here's the first snippet!

Emerald White née Sustrai was a perfectly ordinary orphan, of the sort you could find anywhere. And she was not supposed to be here.

Until about a week ago, the plan had been for her to join Atlas Academy. After all, it was a fine school and produced fine huntsmen and huntresses while providing them a fine education (which was the most important part for her patron) and a fine uniform. It had been a fine plan. Emphasis on had.

And then she'd essentially been exiled from the only real home she'd ever known.

Stupid hormones.

Even now, she wondered what had possessed her to do it it. Not why she'd done it. That much was obvious. After all, she'd had a crush for years. But what strange Grimm had crept into her mind and made her think it had been a good idea to get naked and crawl into the bed of the head of the Schnee family and surrender her body to…

Well, that had happened, and it had been wonderful, but the following morning everything had started going so wrong. She'd been asked to leave. Well, not really asked, but it had been phrased as a request. Never mind she'd have been going to the academy anyway, apparently that wasn't far away enough.

And so she was at Beacon, a continent away. Because clearly she had to be on a different landmass.

She thought back to her last glimpse of Atlas through the window, just before the airship had accelerated away. Weiss had been there, wearing her usual white party dress and leaning on the replica of her grandfather’s old mining axe she used as a cane, Klein next to her and waving awkwardly. Then they’d flown away, and she’d had to while away the following intercontinental flight in her seat.

Now, an ocean, two Grimm attacks, a connecting flight, and a stay in a hotel in Vale later, she was finally boarding the airship on the last leg of her journey to Beacon itself, more-or-less independent again for the first time in years. Her wallet was full of money, her weapons were full of dust rounds, and she was off to get the most comprehensive education a young woman her age could get.

She stared at the wallet in her hands and sighed. The wallet wasn't hers.

Stupid instincts.

“Excuse me,” said, putting on a practiced smile as she called out to the girl she'd taken the wallet from. “You dropped this, miss.” She held out the wallet to the green-clad girl with dark hair.

“Hmm?” the girl 'hmm'-ed, turning around with a mildly annoyed look. At seeing the wallet, however, their eyes widened and they began patting themselves down in what was recognizably an impromptu check of their pockets. Judging from their wide-eyed look, they clearly didn't find what they were looking for. “Thank you,” he said, and it was only then, with the extended vocalization, that Emerald realize they were talking to a guy. “I didn't even notice it was gone.”

No, he hadn't. She still got it! “You should be more careful next time,” Emerald said politely. “You're lucky some thief didn't just pick it up and make off with it.”

Ah, irony. It felt so good!

"Then I'm glad it was you who found it," the boy said. "I'm Lie Ren."

"Emerald White," Emerald said, maintaining the easygoing façade that had captured many a mark in her youth. “New student. You?”

“The same,” the boy said. His face didn't emote much, but whether that was intentional or how he normally was, Emerald couldn't tell.

Any further conversation was interrupted as the boy was suddenly assaulted by an amorous octopus!

Oh no, wait, it was just some loud girl. “Hey Renny! Did you miss me?” the girl said cheerfully.

“Nora, you just went to the bathroom,” the boy said, and Emerald took that as an excuse to leave.

A pity. She'd have liked to watch them longer, but honestly the girl had been too loud for her tastes. Emerald wandered away, sweeping her gaze over the other passengers standing around chatting or taking advantage of the few seats available on the airship. A new report was being shown along one wall, something about local Dust robberies and the person suspected of being responsible. Emerald figured he couldn't really be any good, since they'd maanged to catch him at one pint and get mugshots of him. Unlike her, who had never been caught!

Well, except that one time, but she didn't go to jail for it, so it didn't count!

………………………………….

They'd given a speech at the entrance ceremony. Emerald really hadn't been able to pay attention, mostly because she hadn't wanted to, though her takeaway was that everyone there sucked and they had to step up and start not sucking. Oh, and that they'd be sleeping in the ballroom for some reason.

Emerald had never slept in a ballroom before.

Oh, she'd been to many ballrooms. The Schnee had one in the house, one she'd passed many times since it was on the beaten path and unlikely for her to get too lost navigating to it. There'd been all the times she'd accompanied Weiss to one of her many, many, many parties, wondering where the other girl got all that energy to drink, dance the night away, and bring some random girl or girls back to… wherever it was. Emerald never followed when Weiss did that. That would have been awkward. She'd soon learned to sit in the front with Klein and pretend nothing was happening in the back when Weiss brought anyone into the car afterwards.

Despite her familiarity with ballrooms, sleeping in one was a new experienced. Oh, she'd slept on the ground before, and on the floor of a few abandoned buildings as well, but none of those times had been in a ballroom. Why did Beacon even have one of these? What, did they hold seasonal balls like the too-rich-for-brains types in Atlas did? Oh, please no. She didn't think she could deal dealing with those two-faced things on her own! And she didn't have an appropriate dress!

Emerald paused a moment to rewind that last thought and wondered when she'd added such considerations to her thinking. It must have been Weiss's influence. Well, it could be worse. At least she hadn't started drinking and womanizing.

Lying back on her sleeping bag and fluffing her pillow, Emerald wondered if Weiss had ever– no, no, she wasn't completing that thought. That way lay madness.

Trying to distract herself from that disturbing thought, Emerald glanced around the ballroom, not feeling sleepy yet. The students hadn't been left completely to their own devices. Against the far wall, trying to look unobtrusive, failing spectacularly, and clearly keeping an eye on the population so there wouldn't be any attempts at the things Emerald was trying not to think about, two teachers sat on folding chairs, one an older, portly man in red, the other a slim young woman with blonde hair and a long braid, the two talking among themselves.

There are specific rules given by the series creator for creating them. Ones that, when ignored, create a great deal of scrutiny.

Honestly though, there's a limited number of colors. Characters with strong references to actual colors are more memorable. So with the sheer amount of RWBY OC's out there, I would imagine it's actually hard to come up with something unique.

Like, have you tried creating an OC named Garnet Silverspoon? Pretty sure she exists. Cobalt Bluebell? Taken. Silver Lionfoot? Three OC's on Deviantart. All of the major gems are probably taken and have been commissioned on Deviantart.

I made two OC teams. The first was complicated but managable, but the second team was absolutely nightmarish, due to making it in 2018, when so many possible names were already taken.

I didn't care, kept making characters. Tyrian was the only problem when an canon character took it, used Thistle instead.

Harley, Alice, Rufus & Thistle, especially the last two, probably taken, don't care

Rubeus, Faust, Taupe and Sunny, especially the last two, probably taken, don't care

Helga, Crystal, Lemon and Forrest, especially the last three, probably taken, don't care
