I just read a manga by an author of Dance in the Vampire Bund called Don't Meddle With My Daughter. It's a manga about an homage of superhero albeit pretty sexual at that. It's a fun manga but be warned, the contents in there is pretty NSFW.

Speaking of NSFW manga... There's a mecha manga Jinrouki Winvurga. The story is about a girl named Mashiro whose clan got massacred by the Empire known as the Dominator and some of the women in there will be used as sex slaves. Needless to say, this triggered her Berserk Button and she vows revenge against them and as a result, she merged with a mecha known as Winvurga. It's an interesting manga to say the least. But still, be warned.

[up] I don't really see what is so interesting about Jinrouki Winvurga though. I am not a squeamish person, but a quick look at the raws told me everythin I needed to know. Be prepared for a lot of rape scenes.

[up] Yea... That would make someone a bit uncomfortable. That and the fact that Rape is like a culture in the Dominator society doesn't help either.

Just a repost of my last one, since it got page bottomed. Hopefully nobody minds.

Nakamura Koedo To Daizu Keisuke Wa Umakuikanai

Short version: Two Butt Monkies fall in love. Hilarity Ensues.

Long Version: Koedo Nakamura and Keisuke Daizu like each other and want to go out, however every time they meet disaster of some kind strikes.

When Nakamura wants to confess to Daizu, she writes him a letter... on the same day his eyes get injured and he has to wear a blindfold the rest of the day...

They plan to meet up after school. Daizu shows up, running for his life as he's being chased by a dog... which belongs to Nakamura... and who had previously traumatized Daizu into a fear of dogs...

This is chapters one and two by the way. Starting chapter three, Nakamura wants to pass Daizu a note in class with her contact info on it. Just as she's doing so a crow crashes through the window, steals the note, then drops it on the wrong desk...

I had a bit of a problem with that one. It's kind of bland. There's no tension, because while bad things happen, they don't seem to have more of an effect than a Random Events Plot gag. I mean, despite all those things happening to ruin their chances of getting together, they still get together without much fanfare a chapter or two later.

The characters are mostly just there to deal with those problems, but have very little personality outside that and their relationship. There's little reason to invest myself in them, and without that, the investment in the manga falls apart.

It's selling point is clearly the over-the-top ridiculous stuff that happens, not the plot.

Speaking of over-the-top and silly, I recently read Grateful Dead, the first series of Hisa Masato, who may or may not have become my favorite author.

The story takes place in 1900 Shanghai, and follows Ko-Lin, a young woman who works as a prostitute in a small brothel during the day. And during the night? With the help of an old exorcist named Lin-Chu (who's the manager of the brothel), she hunts the Jiangshi who roam around the streets. While normally withdrawn and easily scared, Ko-Lin can turn into a badass warrior for a short period of time, using the vital energy that she collects… during her daytime job.

The manga is in a Monster of the Week format and the author's style isn't quite polished yet, but it already has that deliciously wacky yet badass tone, dynamic panel layout and shadow effects that make his works such a joy to read. It's only two volumes so it's a quick read.

... I think I found the best/worst obscure manga about a minmaxing VMMORPG player.

Itai no wa Iya nanode Bougyo-Ryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu (or I hate being in pain, so I think I'll make a full defense build) is exactly as the title says: The MC, an airheaded teenage girl named Kaede, has just started playing a popular VMMORPG, and decided from the get-go to throw all of her stat points into Vitality because she really doesn't like the idea of feeling pain from incurring damage. This would've naturally led to nothing more than harsh Reality Ensues... if she didn't have the absurd luck of getting just the right combination of skills from her first few encounters, including one absurdly lucky RNG loot draw involing a rarely encountered monster, that quickly turned her into what promises to become an unstoppable juggernaut of a Mighty Glacier that should have no right to exist in the game yet does so with utter impunity.

And apparently, she gets so broken in later parts of the story that the fucking developer of the game tries to nerf her in both direct and indirect ways. I can only assume that this had failed outright, or backfired horribly, or Kaede somehow found a way around the new problem(s).

Even putting that aside, some commenters do make a good point that this game has such easily exploitable and obvious loopholes and design flaws, it's a miracle that Kaede is the first to come across them (and she doesn't even know that she's exploiting loopholes/bugs; she honestly thinks they're all part of how the game normally works!), because IRL they'd be identified super-fast within the first few days of the game's release and, unless the developer is Too Dumb to Live, patched out quickly.

[up] That reminds me of three things.

Sword Art Online Abridged, where Kayaba Akihiko is a crap game developer to the point that the whole "If you die in the game you die for real" thing was a glitch.

An idea of my own I had of a min-maxing VMMORPG player that creates a new character from scratch using a setup created by his little brother or sister that is as absurd or silly as you'd expect from a small child and enjoying the challenge of trying to actually make it work.

Third, and came to me as I was writing up the second, Only Sense Online, where the details about the various skills, or Senses, that players use are available to read up on, but are in such an obscure place that nobody even knew they were there to find in the first place.

not sure if I mentioned this before but time to update the garbage pile- I've been suffering through Rakujitsu no Pathos.

Stolen from Mangadex: "What happens when next door to Fujiwara, an upcoming mangaka, moves Yuuki, who was his teacher back in high school and first crush?

Yuuki, now a married woman, is starting a new life in the city, but her husband is always away on business trips so she finds comfort in the company of her former student, but what she doesn't realize is that Fujiwara can listen to everything happening in her apartment through the building's thin walls.."

Opinion: It's bad. The art is bad, the story is bad, the characters are bad, bad bad bad bad. Gonna be real with y'all here, the only reason i'm reading it is because I'm a sad, horny little fucker.

Just start reading Gokutsuma Days: Gokudō Sankyōdai ni Semararetemasu (Yakuza Wife Days: I'm surrounded by Three Yakuza Brothers). It's about a girl named Sakura who is an otaku and hikikomori. She is a Yakuza otaku and enjoys Yakuza stories very much. One day, when running errand for her mother, she inadvertently helped defend an old man from a bunch of yakuza underlings. Turns out, said old man is the head of a powerful and feared Yakuza clan in the area. As thanks for saving him, the old man invites Sakura to his house.

Once they arrived, the chief surprise her by saying that as his savior, they will respect her like they do him and she becomes their Anego. And the surprise doesn't end there, as the chief introduces his three grandsons and potential heir, the eldest and the kindest, Shusuke, the second and strongest, Leo and last but not least, the youngest and smartest, Ryusei. The chief then makes a declaration, the one that can make Sakura fall in love with him and marries her, will be the one to become the heir to the clan. Needless to say, Sakura isn't exactly glad about this and at first tries to decline. But as time goes, she actually starts to enjoy being in the presence of the three and eventually starts developing feeling for each of them, just as the three also developed feelings for her.

I'm not one to usually enjoys harem or reverse harem, but I really enjoy reading this, surprisingly. It's quite funny with Sakura's fish out of water moments and imagining if things happen just like those Yakuza movies she watches often resulting in some comedic gold. The three male lead are also pretty likable and while they can be a bit stereotypical, they still have distinct personalities and their interaction with Sakura are pretty good. The stories often followed Sakura and the three handling clan rivalries, tackling illegal drug dealers, etc. Pretty enjoyable if nothing groundbreaking

3x[up] Speaking of questionable game design in manga, I immediately remembered an Manhwa simply called "RPG", where the MMO they played had stagnated for years because only a single player could unlock the key for the ship that would get them to the expansion's new continent... but that player had unsubbed and the creator just let it sit that way.

While the art style is nothing to write home about, it actually does have some quirky characters, like the party's blacksmith which everyone mistakes for The Stoic because he only gives people death glares...but he actually is just a slow typer.

The Memoirs of Vanitas, volume 5… And now, the Beast of Gévaudan! Because of course there is one. tongue And we got a slightly… okay, very unhinged but pretty fun vampire hunter. Kinda reminds me of a slightly less insane Leodari.

Meanwhile, Jeanne has had enough of being the passive one in her relationship with Vanitas and goes for the kill, to his utter bafflement. It's becoming a pretty hot and interesting romance… even pretty unique I must say. I've never quite seen a couple like that in any other shonen. Also, Noah wants Vanitas's B very badly, but alas that's a no-no.

…Has any of Mochizuki Jun's manga gotten an anime yet?

@Lyendith iirc it would be Pandora Hearts... Or maybe I'm wrong.

Also... Another obscure manga that I read: Detective Xeno and Seven Locked Murder Rooms. Its an interesting mystery manga tbh and I'm cool if I recommended you guys to read it.

And I also read another new manga from Magi the Labyrinth of Magic creator, Orient, which tells us about a young boy who promised with his friends that he will slay all of the onis. Will create the thread for the latter manga in the future.

You ever have those moments where you come across a new word, one you've never seen before, and after you see it that first time you start seeing it all over the place? I'm having that right now as this week's chapter of My Hero Academia has an expy of Beast from X-Men whose chosen hero name is Gévaudan.

[up][up] Ah yes, PH has one it seems… Good, there's a chance of seeing a Vanitas anime then. Because this character badly needs to be voiced by Tomokazu Seki. I can't help but hear that voice in every scene he appears.
