LOCK! Clean up the page and lock it. Make the final description painfully clear that the novel condemns pedophilia and do not go into explicit details. There are options between totally ignoring it and letting it be a free for all.

So would that mean the book of Logans Run gets cut? I think it has such content, but I can't be sure.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

Just checked the trope page, and the movie does too. Cut it as well.

Thing is, I think not having a page on a work like Lolita actually damages the wiki; I can totally not wanting porny stuff on here, but Lolita is a legitimate work, and not having a page on it makes it looks like we can't handle so much as acknowledging the subject matter.

@P Down: We're not cutting anything yet. Our goal here is to solve the issue while retaining as much information as possible. Don't start cutlisting anything until we have an official word on what we're supposed to be doing.

...Is it?

As much as I don't want to be seen defending things like Boku No Pico or Kodomo No Jikan (trust me, I don't), if this policy ends up chucking perfectly legitimate works of fiction that clearly showcase many of the tropes this website solely because of one single moment in it that's that's "creepy"...

Wouldn't that be kind of defeating the purpose of cataloging so many of these works in the first place?

...I can agree on trying to curb mentions of all this creepiness, but we shouldn't chop off a leg, just cut out the most cancerous portions. And if this "creepiness" is a major point of the work, frame it in the context that the work framed it in so it doesn't come off as simply "hurr durr i love raep" or something like that.

@1050: There is such thing as the principle of the thing.

There's also such a thing as treating something as a much larger issue than it actually is. Either way, I really don't care enough about this to argue.

The keyword being some. And it's not our job to make that call anyway. Unless the Brave New World page is actually causing trouble, we should leave it alone. The whole issue is that people thing Fast Eddie jumped the gun a bit by cutting stuff that didn't need to get cut; going and nuking more stuff before coming up with a plan won't help anything.

Like I said, we want to get rid of objectionable material, but we want to salvage as much good stuff as possible. If you have cancer in a toe, you cut off the toe, maybe the foot, but stuff like this like chainsawing the whole leg off. Yeah, it solves the problem, but it does far more damage than is necessary.

Right. If the page is attracting creepiness the solution is to lock it. That way the creepy tropers can't taint the subject matter but we get to discuss the important themes, plots, and characters.

@1050 what about the hours of work some of us have put into editing and curating pages for works that only briefly mention child molesters? We should not be upset that we wasted all those hours, and that any hours we put into the site henceforth could be invalidated at any moment in the future, without warning? And we should continue editing under that circumstance?

I hope people understand when I'm bringing up things like The Bible and Classical Mythology I'm trying to show the absurdity of all this. I don't actually want them cut but if we truly are going ZT on this, We would have to.

We would have to cut the bible The freckin Bible, something that hundreds of millions of people worship as the word of the creator himself.*

The oldest book in publication to be consistently re-printed.

and Classical Mythology something taught up and down from 6th grade to 12th in the Us public school system.

Not to mention if we are going to the extremes we are will Lolita and removing all mention of it and thing which were inspired by it to avoid prompting discussion on it. We would have to remove Paradise Lost, Dantes Inferno, Disney's Hercules, Marvel's Disney's other Hercules, American Gods, Super Natural.

...

Need I go on?

If the position is to be that "'art' is just a word perverts use to defend their filth," a lot of things will have to go, including Lolita.

..Is there anybody so far who has seriously stated that cutting that stuff would be a good idea? I mean, we've had like one post by somebody who wanted to cut more stuff, and that was about it. Even Eddie seems to have slacked off after making the initial cuts, so he may be rethinking it.
