I would say that snowclones of sister tropes are okay. It's that both names are bad, as they are far too long for what the trope needs.
Now is this about the games themselves, the attitude to them, or the stereotype? Because this seems to try to jam them all into one.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Didn't we have a thread for Ultra Death Whatever to rename it to something shorter like Ultra Violence 64?

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianWell, looking at the related page for it, "Ultra Violence 64"'s one of the redirects... didn't seem to supplant the long trope name, though, and it has 0 inbound, at that.
Moon◊Redirects cannot show inbounds. Everything is counted toward the main name.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerThat is incorrect. All inbounds are always counted towards the main name, so any redirect will always seem to have zero inbounds. This is just how the software works.

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!and : Only because inbounds are created linking to the page you land upon - the one the redirect is pointing to, not the redirect itself.
No, it's not a software issue.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMaybe I'm using the wrong term - what I mean is, the redirect is on 0 pages. I don't believe that is a software issue because I've seen redirects for other pages counted fairly accurately.
Moon◊That's called a wick.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerRight, so let me guess - an inbound is the "this article brought X number of people to the wiki" part?
Moon◊Uh-huh. Wick is named after Morgan Wick.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerYeah, remembering this name is harder than Super Punk Octo Pudding Gas Mark Seven and certainly harder than Ultra Super Death Gore Fest Chainsawer 3000. I really don't think we need Tastes Like Diabetes but video game examples only, I think this should be about the stereotype. Right now it is just listing sugary games, which is redundant and easily leads to Take Thats and Complaining About Games You Dont Like.
There are plenty of uses of this trope in other media. Just look at the examples that aren't actual games.
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!Stereotypical Kiddie Game? And yeah, there are other media, but not every medium has an "either hardcore or kiddie" false dichotomy attitude.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Sorry, I meant In-Universe games, not saccharine vs. grimdark ultra violent other media.
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!DrStarky, |
I think it is probably a good idea to rename this trope to its redirect Overly Cutesy Videogame or something like Extremely Kiddy Game since it a)is underused with only 13 wicks and 28 inbounds * despite being old enough to have an archived discussion, b)has a somewhat non-indicative name (I think the farmer 3000 part does not seem to really fit the overall kiddy theme), and c)has an unnecessarily long title.
"irhgT nm0w tehre might b ea lotof th1nmgs i dont udarstannd, ubt oim ujst goinjg to keepfollowing this pazth i belieove iN !!!!!1 dMost of the description and the examples are about over the top stupid-sounding children games in fiction, the video game folder is the only odd man out since it list real games. Just limit it to In Universe Examples Only if "attacks" and "complaining" are that much of a problem.
re chaning the name: How about Stereotypical Stupid Baby Game For Babies. Remove the "stereotypical" if that's too long.

I think the 3000 part puts it over the top in terms of being a gratuitous snowclone.
Or just Baby Animal Game.

I'm willing to bet this is not thriving because the name is ridiculously long. Absolutely fails at being concise.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI don't think the name is the problem here.
Ultra Super Death Gore Fest Chainsawer 3000 is pretty much the same thing, but has much more use.
Yeah, I think the stereotype of the ultraviolet video game is much stronger and more prevalent than the stereotype of the harmless kiddie game.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered."but has much more use"
Not by that much. 82 wicks, and 88 inbounds. Neither a thriving.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.DQZ, by wiki standards, that is thriving. It's got more than average on both. More than 50 on either is enough to be thriving. It's just not crazy numbers like some tropes get.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickStill might do a lot better with a shorter name. Both names fail "concise" big time.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. It really does need a shorter name. This trope would probably get at least a little more use if its title weren't Ultra Super Baby Fest Fruit Farmer 3000 or whatever it's called. Shamefully Saccharine Game could work as a name and be way easier to remember. And with 13 wicks it's not a huge change or anything.
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn!Shamefully Saccharine Game sounds like a page to complain about games that you don't like. Same with Stereotypical Stupid Baby Game For Babies or Overly Cutesy Videogame
Keep in mind that the page isn't really supposed to be describing real games, but is supposed to be about the fictional potrayal of videogames.
The goal here should not be be rack up a lot of wicks. The goal should be to get correct usage.
And considering that Clear and Concise Fictional Video Game has only 33 wicks, I don't see any reason to expect that a subset of fictional games should get substantially more wicks.
Also, given that we decided not to rename the counterpart trope, I think this works better if two related tropes have related names.

Crown Description:
The trope named Ultra Super Happy Cute Baby Fest Farmer 3000 is not thriving: it gets 13 wicks, 28 inbounds. With a name like that, it's really unsurprising. Can you walk away from this thread, come back an hour later and remember what exactly the name is?
The trope is "video games are depicted as cute, happy, and suitable for children". The name doesn't even suggest that it's about video games.
Names are supposed to help people find a trope, and this one fails at that. Oh, and it's also a Snow Clone of Ultra Super Death Gore Fest Chainsawer 3000, which doesn't really help.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!
