Fictional White boys believe Asian women are convenient doormats that don't talk back and don't have any other wish than being a man's trophy housemaid... and of course a rutting sow when it comes to sex.

"Fictional?"

Again, the name of the trope should be evocative, regardless or not if it isn't PC. Where da White Women At? is, a lot of these names are not. If we HAD to go that direction, then White Mans Asian Woman or Docile Asian And Mighty Whitey would be my choices. If not, then just have the simple Asian Gal on White Guy Drama.

Asian Gal on White Guy Drama is too vanilla and too soft.

The title of this trope should be offensive because the trope itself is offensive for everyone involved:

- On one hand, it depicts White guys as self-centered, self-serving control freaks, incapable of actual feelings and whose only goal in such a relationship is to find a Trophy Doormat who will obey him much like an Asian servant would;

- On the other hand, it implies Asian women are all basically lewd, slutty Gold Diggers with no morals and who would do anything for money.

So I would opt for a more in-your-face title indeed.

The title of this trope should be offensive because the trope itself is offensive for everyone involved:

This is, frankly, a stupid argument that has bogged this thread down for no good reason. I agree that the name needs to convey the specific, stereotype-based nature of this trope, but the idea that offensiveness should be more important than clarity is just ridiculous.

Nobody has said that offensiveness is more important than clarity.

Asian Gal on White Guy Drama tells me nothing about the trope, in any case.

I don't think that it has to be offensive, but it can be.

Going too far in the PC direction led us to Asian Gal with White Guy which is... just terrible.

... you know, in the meantime while this is being discussed can we at least edit the page to make it clear that "no, instances where race is incidental and a couple happens to be an Asian girl and a white guy are NOT this trope, dammit"?

Probably a good idea.

Makes sense to me too. I went ahead and also changed the sandbox definition page (here) to make that clear. Look good?

Quite good.

I made an addendum here about why this trope is never inverted in Western media.

Made a slight tweak to that addition.

I decided to do some research on this trope (and by research, I meant just a google search). In Real Life, On the other side of trope, the Asian woman perspective (as detailed in this article here), the whole white man attraction is wrapped in this rebelling against the model minority stereotype/family values/Asian and Nerdy trope/patriarchal-ness of some Asian cultures. This is another article about Asian-Americans in general which is good reading. And then within that, I'm reading articles about Asian women tiring of the Entitled to Have You attitude some Asian men have.

Of course I'm speaking generally, I do not mean to offend any Asians/Asian-Americans.

So my new proposal for a title: Mighty Whitey and Mellow Yellow. I think it has the "un-P Cness" of the trope and encompasses all the stereotypes and pre-conceived notions about white men (strong, smart, saving all the natives, etc) and Asian women (docile, submissive and sexy).

[up][up] I do like it indeed. Let's just ask other tropers but I like this. It's as un-PC as it should be.

There's something about the "mellow yellow" that's bugging me, but I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, so I'll give it a mild [tup].

I'm with Willbyr on the "Mellow Yellow" bit. To me, "mellow" implies apathy a lot more than it does submissiveness.

[up] That, I think, may be the problem..."meek", "docile", either could work in place of "mellow". Can't think of another 2-syllable synonym for the concept right now.

I have a problem with the fact that Mighty Whitey is a loaded term on this site, and the white person in the relationship doesn't need to be one.

He doesn't have to be, but he tends to be. Moreover, the misuse tends to be skewed heavily in the other direction; we're worried about people misusing the trope in instances where race is incidental. If the trope name gives them pause (remember, tropes are flexible so even if the name isn't 500% indicative of every possible use of the trope) and makes them think about whether it applies, that's a win in my book.

If they don't look into the trope enough to make sure what it means, then I'm sure the loss of the example wasn't that big of a loss.

I just thought it was because it brings to mind Mello Yello as a soft drink. (I know it's not any more valid that the complaints about confusion of my suggestion, I'm just being silly.) tongue

The Rhymes on a Dime bit is nice though. Any way to preserve that while changing Mellow?

It's...yeah, it's not perfect by any means, but it's far and away the best suggestion so far. Memorable, and gets the idea across. Worst case, the trope ends up back in repair shop in another year or so, but I think there's a decent chance it'll work. Weak [tup] from me.

Probably. FYI I just pulled the whole sliding scale bit because it was, to be frank, terrible and confusing.
