Reorganizing of Pokemon WMG

So, I'm doing some offline cleanup of WMG.Pokemon Future Generations (going live once I'm done), and noticed that WMG.Pokemon is structured really a little oddly. Specifically, the WMG for the main series games are mostly kept in WMG.Pokemon Open One/Two/Three, not at, say, WMG.Pokemon Red And Blue. I don't know, if I want to make a specific guess about a Generation I Pokemon or aspect of Gen IV's storyline, I'd expect to find it at the WMG subpage of that generation. WMG.Pokemon Black And White needs some reorganizing, too.

Proposal:

• Move WMG specific to a particular generation from the Open ones to WMG.Pokemon Red And Blue, WMG.Pokemon Gold And Silver, WMG.Pokemon Ruby And Sapphire, and WMG.Pokemon Diamond And Pearl.
• Keep Open 1-3 for more general guesses, for example connections between any given gens' storylines or relating the mainline games to side games.
• Keep WMG.Pokemon Black And White as "Pokemon Black And White + remainder of Gen V," but:
  • Move predictions for Gen VI+ (N reappearances, for example) to WMG.Pokemon Future Generations
  • Nuke some Jossed and I Knew Its from before release.

Obviously a bit of a project, so... here we are. Sound good, Poketropers?

I actually participated in the last reorganizing of the Pokémon WMG. I was the one who deleted the Jossed and I Knew It! examples last time, but they got added back in.

EDIT: I also propose a rename from WMG.Pokemon Black And White to WMG.Pokemon Generation V with the former and the ptitle for the former remaining redirects. (The WMG.BW page exists at the ptitle right now.)

EDIT 2: Same for WMG.Pokemon Future Films to WMG.Pokemon Anime, with the stuff relating to Black & White/Best Wishes and the Reshiram/Zekrom movies cut.

GASP! There IS Hope!

First up:

• Second the rename of Ptitle2gli7wce. The line even states it's a Non-Indicative Title.
  • Further support cleanup of this page, as the very first Pokemon-related one belonges in either Crossovers or Meta.
  • OPPOSE merging with WMGs from Black & White itself. Already published stuff should not be lumped in with future stuff.
• OPPOSE the Rename and merge of Pokémon Future Films, as it's a page on the Anime's future, not its past. I have a method to deal with that below.

Three months ago, I actually went through the "Open" pages and made a list of possible categories for which Pokemon WMGs could go on.

Eventually, I determined that the following categories could be added:

• Anime (A)
• Breeding
• Games (G) (with possible subset of Gens 1&2 vs Gens 3 and on, with a possible split between 3&4 and 5&later upon a Gen 6 or 7.)
• (World) Origins
• Species(-Specific)

We also need to move some WMGs to EDIT: Crossovers, Meta, or specific medium categories. These are also marked.

Those marked with "C" transcend one or more existing or proposed category and can be left on a "Misc." page until a further analysis can be taken.

Also, the two "folders" for "Open 1", I didn't have the "Breed" category thought up. Further analysis there could also assist.

Remember, this list is only from the Misc. Pages and is dated by 3 months. However, it should give us a good start.

Again, 3 months outdated, but it's a first step.

EDIT: Is it just me, or do the forums use folders differently than the discussion pages?

8 Hour Later Edit: Analysis indicates that of the above, we have:

• 81 Guesses related to the Anime, hence it needs its own page.
• 139 guesses related to games, hence it needs its own page, and may need to be split. (While a page per generation would dilute the sample, we already have pages for them, so individual WMGs would be ok.)
• 46 Species-Specific guesses. Borderline for a subpage of its own, but should have at least at least a decent sized (and subdividable) folder if kept with general guesses.
• 6 Guesses related to Breeding. Not enough for its own page, but would go well with the Species-Related guesses for a total of 52.
• 27 Origin-related guesses. Not enough for its own page, but should have a sub-folder.

This leaves about 20 WMGs to be relocated to existing folders and 100-150 that cross medium lines, but do not cross over with non-Pokemon franchises. This allows us to use Open 1 as an Archive, Open 2 for New Guesses, and Open 3 for future expansion.

TLDR, my proposal is as follows:

1. WMG pages for each Video Game Gen, listing WMGs for the games post-publication.
   • Future 5th Gen gets renamed, but otherwise stays as is for now, but gets moved (to B&W) once 6th gen is announced. (EDIT: Can be debated)
2. Anime gets its own WMG separate from future films.
3. EDIT: As does Pokemon Diamond And Pearl Adventure (got 2 that need to go.)
4. Open 2 is set aside for new WMGs
   • Species- and breeding-related WMGs get put in a folder in Open 2 so that new entries for this subcategory can go there. Origin-related entries get their own folder on that page.
5. Open 1 is relisted as an Archive. Depending on size, existing entries may be commented upon, but no new entries may be added.
6. Once cleaned out, Open 3 is to be delisted until needed (if it is ever needed)
7. And we make the main Pokemon WMG page into an index, for easy categorical navigation.

That's my $0.02.

Went ahead and moved Meta guesses, as well as those for works already having pages, as well as a few crossover ones. Also deleted now redundant entries on Open 1 and Open 2. About to do so on Open 3.

Also have a list of Anime ones, which I can launch when I get the go ahead.

I could also move the game ones to a single page (recommend the Ruby Sapphire page as Diamond and Pearl have several media whereas R&S has only 2 of note) but it'll take some time to prune by Gen/Region. (Recommend pruning by region, as that's how the games are listed here.)

Wow, there actually were some responses!

Not as versed in the anime as some folks, so I'll leave that to someone else. Do like the idea of keeping Open 1 as an archive and Open 2 to be used until it gets big enough to put Open 3 back into service. Still support getting a WMG set up for each generation - like the "Generation X Families" pages, I think species-specific ones should go into the generation where the evolutionary line originated, for example Pikachu guesses going in Red and Blue's WMG.

Still think we might want to make a specific place for guesses that cover either more than one gen or attempt to place spinoffs into the timeline and so on. Open 2 could work, but a more specific thing like WMG.Pokemon Internal Crossovers or something was more what I had in mind.

Copied-Pasted Anime-Related Tropes to a new page. Will see about excising Anime-Related guesses tonight, as well as maybe sorting out Game-Only guesses (vs. General Franchise)

EDIT (12 Hours Later): Game Pages Up. Will need help on Pruning Duplicates from the Opens.

EDIT 2 (7 Hours after that): Cancel the above pruning request. Just need to get a good look at how we should organize the Open pages further.

Advise against consolidating the Misc Guess pages until the remaining guesses have been sorted into category folders.
