Three eighth grade girls attacked and stripped a fifth grade boy, police described the incident as a prank. The boys mother refused to press charges, believing the girls parents should punish them. The reporting station describes it as a prank gone wrong.

If the roles were reversed, do you think the reaction would be different?

If the entire thing were reversed, the boys doing the prank would be called would-be rapists.

A group of boys attacking a younger girl would find themselves thrashed by the media, the girl's parents, the police... etc. It would unquestionably be a much more harsh response.

I hate humanity right now.

Very much so.

It's not what the people did, it's how they're reacting. On one hand, the girls shouldn't be getting away with this sort of shit and the mother is a dumbass but then take a look at the second highest voted comment in the youtube video. It's like a giant mess of stupidity that's cancerous and growing.

Youtube Comment

Does anyone takes these seriously around here?

But yeah, something bad happened, and people were under-reacting to it.

The Mother doesn't want to press charges? Why? Did she think it was funny?

That's criminal activity right there.

Because I have a tendency to accidentally glance at the stuff and read it anyway despite trying my hardest to ignore it. I'm not really sure either, it's like the fruit out of the Garden of Eden, except it's got the consistency, smell, and flavor of poo and makes you dumber.

I just hope that boy manages to get away from all of this. I don't know any of what happened before the story, but no one deserves this. I hope that he at least gets a clean start without all of this constantly plaguing him.

Watched the actual video. It looks like the mother is serious about it but is not going to the court. Maybe she wants the message sent directly from the kids' parents so that they'll learn.

Unless that's not the mother speaking? I also want to see what happened with the original video,

Definitely an under reaction on everybody's part. Seriously, this guy was assaulted, stripped, had to walk home naked, and then had a video posted online humiliating him in front of all his friends and classmates. There better damn well be some consequences. Screw what the mother wants, does the boy want to press charges?

One of the girls had him pinned to the ground with her knee on his throat. If she had slipped she could have accidentally put all her weight on it and crushed his trachea.

*sigh* -_-; Worst thing is that these kinds of things usually end at this point, nobody of involved people will acknowledge how bad thing it really is nor the double standard.

this puts me in the rare mood where I consider punching a young girl acceptable... they've ruined this kid's life, and they're probably not going to get more than a few weeks of grounding.

I don't know why, but it strikes me as unlikely that a group of girls who have such lax morals as to do such a horrible thing to a young boy will get punished by their parents. In my mind, I see the parents as the kind who dote on them to a ridiculous degree...

Come on, people, obviously he liked it! He must be sorely disappointed they didn't go any further; he could have got some free early sex out of it!

Seriously, the mother deserves a talk with a social worker for not pressing charges, and the girls and their parents also deserve a chat with a social worker (accompanied by a cop), for a different but obvious reason.

If you ask me, you should lower your standards. Unless you consider punching a young girl to be just as wrong as punching a young boy.

Does the mother really think that the law has less potent punishmants than the girl's parents?

My theory on why is this happening:

Women want equality with men. In the contemporary western society, they have almost completely achieved their goal, and I fully support them. Most men find women equal, but it is still combined with some outdated sexist ideas such as chivalry. Women are still assumed to be the weaker, gentler and more innocent sex, so men still go by the rules of chivalry (eg. not hitting a girl). Of course, this benefits women so they don't complain. Women, actually, currently have more benefits than men - they have the same rights, but are automatically protected when it comes to certain issues. I'm afraid that this will lead to a matriarchate.

The sin of silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.
