Well, Cygan was wondering why there wasn't one, so I made it. I guess we can talk about queer stuff. :3
(*LGBTQ+ Solidarity huggles*)
Oh, and if you're wondering, non-queer folks are welcome too.

-hugs-
I hope you can get through this.
And I'm still staring at a waiting list with no end in sight. Bleh.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Waiting lists this long on stuff like this should be a crime.
Also, belated congratulations to Snake!
The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerWhen my brother got his autism diagnosis at less than two years old, my parents were told, "put his name in for Medicaid now, so he'll be close to the top of the list when he becomes eligible at 18".
Fresh-eyed movie blogWhat the full fuck.
That's the American public healthcare system for you. Managing his finances, benefits, and day to day activities is nearly a full-time job for my mother, and my father helps with the paperwork and money stuff.
Fresh-eyed movie blogHuh, so I was going back through Troper covens, and I found the old Transgender troper's thread. Its rather old, hasn't been used in like 2 and a half years, and shows some of its age (its referred to as "transgendered" tropers, something that sounds like nails and chalkboard).
I was wondering if we'd be interested in revitalizing that thread to provide a space for Trans tropers specifically to meet and discuss related topics with eachother? That way we could use this thread more to discuss issues and topics that affect the whole of the LGBTQ community. Or would it be better to let sleeping dogs lie and concentrate LGBTQ discussion to this thread?
Apologies if this is the wrong place for this. I thought it would be best to take it up with our other LGBTQ tropers here before trying anything.
The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -Fighteerwe don't get much discussion here in the first place.
if i remember, there was a ban on overly political talk in here at some point, not sure how much it holds up considering how little traffic we get through here in any case.
either way, i'm fine with reviving that thread for the specific purposes of relevant discussions, i just don't know how much traction it would gain as opposed to here.
[forum cryptid: it/it's]There was never a ban of political talk in this thread per se, but after a couple people expressed discomfort and mental health burnout in the wake of the election and inauguration, as well as some freakouts from someone drumming up excessive panic, a suggestion was made of "...Maybe it's time to segue the politics back to the LGBT Rights and X threads over in OTC."
A couple people agreed with this in the following posts and there was no immediately voiced disagreement, which at least on my part was out of a sense of not wanting to be seen as that asshole breaking the peace so I kept my vehement disagreement to myself. It was never a formal rule or anything but people observed it like it was until a situation arose where I got blown up at for talking about a court case for transgender bathroom access in schools that got punted from the SCOTUS back down to a lower court and I made my stance about "no politics" being stupid and stifling in a thread for LGBT/Queer communities
Hey y'all, I dunno how many of you remember me, but I used to post here a lot!
I very recently came out as (potentially) trans to my parents, so I figured I'd pop my head in here again!
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeWelcome back, and congratulations!
welcome to the club! Glad your here!
you make me want to do terrible things to you~Welcome back, and congratulations on coming out. Did it go well?
Very well! The conversation pretty much went "Hey I think I might be trans", and my parents responded "is that it?"
and then i doubled down and put on the dress i own and showed it to them, and my mom asked me if i was comfortable and my dad told me that red looks good on me!
and throughout the whole time my parents were assuring me that they will love me no matter what, etc etc
so i'd say it went really well!
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeNice, glad it went pretty well for you!
I remember when I came out as bi and genderfluid my parents were like "We'd accept that, but we also don't really believe you're that", which is... Alright, I guess?
I bring up being bi around them every now and again, they don't really comment on it much though.
Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I found something interesting in the 80s Strawberry Shortcake cartoons. In the first special Blueberry Muffin is male, then is absent in the next special, and in the third special she's female and has been female ever since. Out-of-universe it was just the toy company being like 'let's make this character a girl' but in-universe it reads as a very early example of trans acceptance. ^^
The Protomen enhanced my life.oh my god thank you! thats so cute! It warms my heart to see trans characters or characters that can be interpreted as trans and aren't a joke in media!
you make me want to do terrible things to you~You're welcome ^^ I read a good graphic novel that featured a trans character called As The Crow Flies. it started as a webcomic and made its way to print, and I really liked its exploration of ethics, religion, and other topics. It really made me think! (I think it was only part 1 so a sequel may be out or coming out soon!)
The second special also has Strawberry and Orange Blossom's really close friendship, with them swinging on swings together, praising each other's skills, sharing every interest they have, holding hands, and ending with walking down the street together while singing how "we're a we, and we're friends."
Star Flight and Heart Bright from My Little Pony (G3) have a similarly close bond that the narration says is "as close as any two pony friends can be," and share smoothies with two straws in the same cup, sleep in the same bed, and do everything together including dreaming the same dreams.

The Protomen enhanced my life.Well, I think it's time I went back to the angry dome. Stupid off-the-peg sizes that don't work for me.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Whats the angry dome?
you make me want to do terrible things to you~Wow, this pop culture reference is nearly 20 years old.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerTime sure does fly.
Devypu's~ Big Pony :3Maybe it's just the paranoia talking, but do any of you ever feel like the internet is deliberately trying to use everyone else's success to make you feel like shit?
"Yup. That tasted purple."Yes. Pretty much nearly 95 percent of my year.
that's great! good on you! I can't wait to get my bottom surgery...
Also my dad took me shopping the other day and kept on talking about how "it's just a sick fetish" and compared it to being a furry, all the while calling me sick and perverted while misgendering me and deadnaming me, but he apologized about it after I spent 2 days feeling like el crap-o grande and sending a few....harsh things to him.
Also still haven't gotten therapy, the only gender therapist in town costs 150$ per sesh and WI healthcare doesn't cover trans stuff. so that's fuuuuun. also my step dad is "weirded out" by me wearing fem clothes and makeup. so it's nice to know he's supportive
you make me want to do terrible things to you~
