Ahh, console video games (or vidcons as I call them). the ultimate medium of expression, able to convey any emotion ranging from hatred to love, loyalty to fear, all in front of our eyes. Ah, and with lovingly crafted art, music, and the ability to control the action, vidcons are the ultimate combination of the high arts. While I tend to play the stoic, I will be the first to admit that vidcons haven driven me to cry, to scream and shout, to feel actual hate; such is the power of this force beyond our wildest reckoning. And here I am, before you, to temp your tongues with the taint of such a tantalizing topic.

And the Japanese, the true geniuses behind the world of video games. Pah, I throw my scorn upon such incompetents of the West who would mock the true art of the Japanese with 'games' such as Baldur's Gate and Madden. Perhaps it is that the West is not as intelligent as the East, but this is a matter for another day. Japan has given us such masterpieces as the Final Fantasy series, Star Ocean, Wild Arms, and of course, Arc the Lad. Yes, some of the finest vidcons in the world were created by Japanese. I come to you today to ask you in all earnesty, what is your favorite vidcon? I will reveal mine after the grand debate has illustriously begun, but not before the first poster falls victim to my plot of discussion.

In other words, this is a thread on an imaginary forum our avatars frequent. The topic can fluctuate, and its mostly just general discussion.

Well, I could, but Miku and Tsukasa wouldn’t like that.

Here’s the thing: I care more about what Miku and Tsukasa think than what the school thinks.

Out of curiosity, what kinds of effects do superweapons in your world have?

The typical "superweapon" can make a city explode. But, like, with incendiaries, or combustable gas, or a giant magnifying glass placed between the target and the Sun, or even just straight-up fire. Y'know, the stuff you guys used before you had nukes.

The more I think of it, the more glad I am that our universe hasn't figured out atomic weapons yet. I, personally, take it as proof of divine intervention. Could you imagine "mad nuclear engineering"?

[2] https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gil_v3p59.jpg

Speaking of, Kamishiro was caught with explosives (thankfully not particularly strong ones) on school property today. Any member of his insane theatre troupe could be arrested and I would not be surprised.

Well, you said they weren't particularly strong ones, so what's the problem?

[1] Hm. Well, if you're really struggling to find suitable testing sites, I could share the EV ones. Just a heads-up, we do record testing sessions for security reasons, and since the SS Nomad is in a lower-degree universe from yours, it may not be able to build any machine that you can imagine.

[2] Honestly, that sounds kinda tame to me. I was half-expecting artificial sinkholes - but you're right, we can only pray that mad nuclear engineering... well, there is fusion, which is very useful...
Hm, now I don't know if I should hope nuclear physics does or doesn't get discovered.

Oh, those exist, too (though they're less common). It's just that we were talking about explosives, so I was just listing the explosive ones.

If I listed every known way to destroy a city, I'd need much more than a forum post. The most frequently-used one I know of is the classic "giant monster" approach (note: varying degrees of success).

It's also worth noting that for every Spark trying to destroy a city, there's probably another one trying to defend said city. So many cities have built-in defences to superweapons. Hence why our whole continent hasn't been depopulated yet.

Depends on what you mean by "defence situation." Do you mean just a look at a city's defence systems, or an overview of a siege, etc.? If it's something like that, I'd be welcome to show you sometime.

I was thinking about an overview of a siege. Tbh I don't expect the Nomad to be attacked anytime within the next hundred years, but just in case, I'd like to be prepared - and besides that, believe it or not, there are bored people in Exotic Ventures.

So I've been experimenting with programming languages, and there's this one that I'm using that's really good for writing scripts and automating tasks. I've been getting very good at it. Technically I'm kind of Book Dumb but the fact that I was able to understand this and excel at this so quickly shows how far I have been getting in terms of progress.

OK, Icarus, I cheked my library for books on sieges you might find interesting.

Hmm, let's see . . .

  • I'm actually currently reading this book about the Siege of Mechanicsburg (1894) that one of my generals wrote. I mentioned it last Saturday, in fact.OOC  That was when my father tried destroying the oldest Spark stronghold on the continent. It was just over two years ago.
  • Any good library has stuff on the Battle of Sturmhalten (1673-1676), the final battle between Andronicus Valois and Bludtharst Heterodyne. Though since it's pre-Long War the tactics may be outdated.
  • Mažeikiai (1838) is one that saw interesting use of underground combat. Since you mentioned using artificial sinkholes as superweapons, I think you might find it neat to look at as an example of what a city siege looks like.
  • Feldkirch (1788) is probably the most "standard" sample of what a siege between Spark warlords is like. Though it was over a century ago (but not pre-Long War) so it may be old-fashioned to use as an example.
  • Pilsen (1880), also known as "the one with the giant armoured hawk." We — the Wulfenbachs — were the defenders in that one, so I naturally have reports of it.
  • Monte Bruno (1805) is a case study in what not to do when laying siege to a place. Literally. They used it in my university as an example of what not to do.

[2] I kinda do? Used to work with a program called Processing which let you procedurally draw all sorts of things - like the Mandelbrot set. Me, I guess the most advanced thing I've written is an extremely inefficient program that draws and colours Voronoi cells.
I suppose two things that you could try as practice are a Hello World program and a 99 Bottles of Beer program? After that, there are plenty of ideas and concepts that you could try to implement as code - just look at channels like Code Parade or Code Bullet.

Currently listening to some custom trailer music sound effects. They sound so interesting. It's amazing how they're able to record these sounds in the studio and make them sound unique and impactful!

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_family_guy_11_26_22.png

How do they generate these sounds?

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marnie_pokemon_family_guy_10_7_22.png

I think it's a combination of recording Real Life sounds and generating sounds from a synthesizer. Then, they can apply a variety of effects such as time stretching, reverb, pitch bend, delay, and some other ones to alter the sound and make it more mysterious.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_family_guy_11_26_22.png

That's pretty neat. I wish I could see that post-production process in action one day.

The most popular programming languages I'm familiar with are actually Befunge, Brainf##k, Malbolge, Piet and Whitespace.
...
... just kidding, nobody uses these - they're all esoteric programming languages, and they're basically gimmicks. Brainf##k I guess is notable because I've seen it implemented in Geometry Dash and I Wanna Maker.
