Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.

     Eddie's old post
Looks like we have a big page lock coming. Big in the sense of many pages and big in the sense that the pages to be locked are too big.

It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine

They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.

I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Are there any tropes that are Final Mix only / Manga-only and could be split out?

And / or tropes that are big and could be split off? Maybe Stance System?

Topper note: Kingdom Hearts II talk.

Manga-only? No. I actually made sure to avoid adding those (and upon a quick look through the source code, I can confirm there are no examples from that adaptation present in the page whatsoever).

There is, however, a large number of Final Mix-exclusive examples, both present since before and added by me. I had added them because there's no article solely dedicated to that version of the game (and in my experience, not too many pages on remakes or updated rereleases are made unless the changes are too significant from the original version, like with Metroid II: Return of Samus and Metroid: Samus Returns).

I don't think seggregating between the versions' examples would be efficient, since there are tropes that have each an example present in both versions and another only in Final Mix (I noticed this is the case of Superboss, for example), so it would lead to the same trope listed in both versions even if the examples were different.

We don't need to make a whole Video Game page for Final Mix, just a KingdomHeartsII.Final Mix for its Exclusive tropes?

I mean, I myself wouldn't be opposed to doing that if it was the most supported option. I'm just saying that I haven't seen many precedents for this type of situation, and the ones I can recall right now didn't end well.

A long time ago, someone had split the Super Mario 64 page into two subpages, one for the original version and another for the DS remake, and got suspended for it (at least I think they were suspended — perhaps I'm misremembering). Also, a couple eons ago, the Subspace Emissary tropes from Super Smash Bros. Brawl used to have their own page as well, but said page was later merged back to the Brawl article. It's likely that this kind of split isn't done unless it's absolutely necessary.

Another problem, as mentioned, is that there are tropes listed which have examples applying to both versions but also at least one example only present in Final Mix, as well as trope examples that happen in a standard way in the original and with an addition or twist in Final Mix. So

But like I said, if more voices agree with a subpage for Final Mix tropes, then I will comply. I simply want to go by whatever option is most approved.

EDIT: Huh, The Subspace Emissary was actually merged back in July 2018 via a TRS decision, so it wasn't that long ago. That more or less makes my previously-exposed point stand, though.

@Kirby Enemies: Splitting the Major Recurring Enemies off into their own subpage should work.

I think it would be better to split Kingdom Hearts II alphabetically. I don't really care about the precise folder split.

Split the Kirby page.

[up] I suggest that the Paradox Pokemon be split off into their own page. A byte counter shows that combined, it'll be roughly 47000 bytes; so it'd be long enough to justify splitting it off.

I already split the Gen IX page into three with Paradox Pokémon receiving their own page like the Ultra Beasts.

If I wasn't allowed to do that without discussing it.

I'm sorry. I won't make that mistake again.

Administrivia.Works Needing Tropes has the too-long warning, but I've removed two pages from it because they had enough tropes, so I think we should clean it up before we think about splitting it.

Well, if we finally decide whether Creators need tropes, we can possibly remove some.

Where's that thread, if it exists?

Anime is giving the warning.

Given the various "Anime and Manga" decade pages (Anime and Manga of the 1960s, etc.), I am wondering whether the list on Anime is even needed.

[up] I'll be honest, it bothered me too. Video Games doesn't have examples because it's split, so Anime and Manga are probably redundant with own sub-indexes. Though not all entries are duplicated to respective year page, so it probably needs own Short-Term.

I think we have enough anime and manga related indexes to just forgo the list.

Probably a short-term project thread is good to make sure all entries are on at least one decade page. Or at least a subindex that isn't the Anime page.

Characters.Kirby Heroes And Supporting Characters isn't throwing up the warning yet, but it's pretty laggy on my end. byte count is around 198,000. magolor's folder is the longest, at 36,551 bytes/5,871 words. that's a bit below the character-specific page threshold, but it makes me wonder if we could maybe split this page further somehow... my only other idea would be splitting "supporting characters" off

edit: if we give magolor a page that also covers his ship, the lor starcutter, that would put him up to the character-specific threshold (the lor's folder is 5,825 bytes / 946 words). could that work?

In fact, of the mains, only "Bandana Waddle Dee" doesn't have his own page.

[up] At the moment, Bandana Dee only has around 21,000 bytes to his folder, so that wouldn't be enough to split him off on his own page.
