Funny enough, Diane's first experience with magic was an AOE Mental Compulsion (and transformation) spell. It's possible that that was the scene of her Awakening so she'd get a few spells along that yheme first.

...still can't tell if this is Diane getting a spell by accident or if Shive watched too many christmas specials from the 90's when making this storyline.

I just wonder... does Shive intentionally plot out the most awkward way possible to hit particular storybeats? Is that a thing?

As for this... while there's been reasonable canonical evidence to suggest that Diane may be some level of homophobic (although unlikely to be "actively hostile" levels of it), I guess it's time to learn if it's actually true or if she's just been really ignorant (I've always suspected "ignorant, and acting slightly homophobic because of sociological reasons," but I'm ready to be proven wrong on it).

Well, given that Nanase prompted a Crush Blush, and her earlier/later thought-bubble when talking about "Some girls like girls. Sometimes very specific girls, but still", I think that Diane is at least a 1 or 2 on the Kinsey Scale. Whether that extends to Lucy remains to be seen.

Plus, we've already had it stated a couple times that she was displaying that homophobia because of an Incompatible Orientation situation, and she was lashing out as the Alpha Bitch she was.

I think getting these two strips together has given me whiplash.

I like that this Tomb Raider bit is parodying the 1996 original. Sarah as Jacqueline Natla was a good parody choice I think. Also not having Nanase Croft be so obscenely wealthy that she could do it for free was pretty funny.

Was that a joke? Because I am pretty sure that's Diane.

Difficult to say. I thought "Sarah" too when seeing her, and now I can't decide, the two of them look too much alike with that haircut.

I'm waiting for an alternate strip where it's just Diane's shellshocked face for 9 panels. Or 5 panels with increasingly-outlandish things interspersing them.

Or something like when Grance played Black & White and stood in place for several years (because Grace the player sped up time)

I don’t know enough about Tomb Raider to know if Dan is referring to the newest series when he says “remake.”

Edit: A problem easily remedied, because this is TV Tropes. It looks like the remake in question is Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

I do like the last part of the commentary pointing out just how repetitive this could have been. At least predictable is something different in this case.

Well... that happened. Actually, this one I think makes the most sense. She's an impulsive teen who's shown such inclinations in the past. Fair enough.

Still feeling the "90's christmas movie ending" atmosphere, but at least it's not as cheesy and contrived as it was before.

For all that this is ridiculous teen melodrama, this at least feels like believable ridiculous teen melodrama.

So, most of Lucy's character was crammed into one chapter so Shive could ship them together? Alrighty then.

So, what's next? There are two dates on the books, Magus is still on the loose, and there is that Raven-Sarah talk upcoming.

Corny, but cute. I find this acceptable.

So something occurred to me that I'm a bit hesitant to say, but I'll go ahead and say it.

Yes, we've seen the Incompatible Orientation pop up time and again. But how many heteronormative couples do we have in the comic at this point? Of the male/female couples, we have:

• Elliot & Ashley - but Ashley's bisexual, and Elliot is a gender-shifter (which she totally digs).
• Tedd & Grace - he's genderfluid, and she's a Voluntary Shapeshifter who's also Teddsexual.
• (Possibly) Sarah & Sam - he's transgender, though it'll be interesting to see whether gender swapping becomes as common In-Universe as it did in Magus'.

I'm not complaining mind you, but it is a weird thing to notice - maybe Magic is responsible?
