YMMV / Will Wood

Go To

  • Death of the Author: Will Wood has stated that he refuses to discuss "I / Me / Myself" in detail anymore because of peoples' tendency to misrepresent his words.
  • Friendly Fandoms: There is a significant overlap between Will's fans, Tally Hall fans, Lemon Demon fans, and Jack Stauber fans, despite not having similar sounds at all. The overlap can probably be chalked up to them all being primarily online fanbases, and the fact that they're all just outside the "mainstream".
  • Genius Bonus: In response to his self-centered tendencies and starting fights with others just because they don't agree with him, the protagonist of "The Main Character" says that "oh man, Sun Tzu would love this!" However, those who know what The Art of War (Sun Tzu) is really about realize that the book actually discourages unnecessary conflict. The protagonist's ignorance on it perfectly fits the song.
  • Misaimed Fandom: "I / Me / Myself", according to Word of God, is a song about gender identity and how society restricts people to act a certain way because of their gender. The song has caught on to be one of his most popular among the trans, non-binary, and genderqueer communities because of its applicability to Trans Tribulations, such as talking about privileges of being born male and the protagonist wishing he was a girl.
  • Signature Song:
    • "I / Me / Myself" for its satirical look at gender identity and general applicability in The New '20s.
    • "The Main Character" has become the breakout on "In case I make it". Despite the song being intentionally narcissistic and tone-deaf, it's a lot of fun to sing along to and is undeniably catchy. Many have been quick to attribute it to their favorite fictional characters, particularly those of the Evil Is Cool variety.
  • Tear Jerker: A majority of the songs on "In case I make it," are slow and sorrowful, dealing with topics like death and substance abuse.
