YMMV / WandaVision Episode 8 "Previously On"

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Was Agatha being honest when she begged for her life and insisted she could use her magic for good, or was it all an act to get the other witches to lower their guard, and when that didn't work she simply killed them? She's no stranger to the Wounded Gazelle Gambit, after all, but she also begged her mother for a chance to be good one last time even after killing the rest of the coven (possibly accidentally) when she likely realized that she could just cut through Evanora if she wanted to. Also, did Agatha take her mother's brooch as a Tragic Keepsake or as a trophy?
    • Did Hayward plan all along for Wanda to imbue the drone with her magic or did he simply take advantage of the fact that she did?
    • When we finally see the citizens of Westview pre-Hex, they are all miserable and are seemingly still recovering from the Snap-Blip with the town itself worn down. Did Wanda subconsciously want to help them be happier? note
  • Fanfic Fuel:
    • With the reveal that Westview's sitcom trappings were inspired by the sitcoms Wanda watched when she was young, it could be interesting to see what would have happened if she was inspired by other shows or movies.
    • What exactly Agatha was up to in the 330 years in between her killing her coven and her infiltrating Westview, and if she was one of the victims of the Snap.
  • I Knew It!:
    • Several fans had guessed the sitcom aesthetic came from Wanda watching them as a child in Sokovia as well as watching them with Vision at the Avengers compound after Age of Ultron.
    • While Kevin Feige had already announced in advance that this series would finally call Wanda "the Scarlet Witch," many fans guessed that her powers would be revealed as "chaos magic," thanks to a similar scene in Kurt Busiek's The Avengers where Agatha Harkness gave this name to Wanda's powers.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Any potential sympathy Hayward gained a few episodes ago vanishes when it's revealed he's the one who used Manipulative Editing to make Wanda look like the villain with her stealing Vision's body and then resurrecting him, when she left peacefully without Vision's body. The whole time, he and his team were trying to bring Vision back as a sentient weapon, and ultimately use her powers to resurrect the actual Vision for their own purposes.
  • Narm: When Agatha is holding Billy and Tommy hostage in the end, she's holding them with a long loop of magical cord draped around their necks with a huge opening in the back. It's hard to take the scene seriously when it looks like the boys can just walk a few steps backwards to get out of it. Especially Tommy, who has Super-Speed. It also looks fairly ridiculous amidst the setting of the bright suburban houses and Agatha in a voluminous gothic gown and hair clearly being blown by an offscreen fan. Some compared the scene to looking like it came out of a Disney Channel Original Movie.
  • Narm Charm: The final scene is a sinister evil witch strangling children while a good witch tries to save them. If only Wanda were in her "Halloween costume", then it would look like it came straight out of a comic book. Which, you know, it basically did. The witch outfit vs soccer mom outfit is perfectly fitting with the show's motif; weird, contrasting and kind of silly.
