- Hilarious in Hindsight: Homer spoils The Empire Strikes Back by discussing the plot twist within earshot of the moviegoers as he and Marge leave the movie theater, all of whom are annoyed. The plot of the much later episode "Bart The Bad Guy" has movie producers do everything in their power to prevent the movie from being spoiled prior to release, only for people to spoil it the instant they leave the movie theater (much like Homer does here).
- Memetic Mutation:
- Production for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens had been super secretive. So, in the weeks leading up to the film's release, Mark Hamill urged fans to not "be a Homer" by spoiling the plot.
- The clip also gets posted whenever people warn others about not spoiling popular movies, some of which are not Star Wars-related, like this post warning people not to spoil Avengers: Endgame.
- Unintentional Period Piece: Bart suggests to name the new baby Kool Moe Dee, who was a well known rapper in the early 1990s but is now virtually forgotten. Lisa also suggests the name Ariel, whom Belle had just replaced as the then most recent Disney Princess. That said, those who grew up in The '90s will remember "Ariel" being a very common young girl's given name at the time.
