YMMV / The Flash 2014 S 3 E 20 I Know Who You Are

Go To

  • Broken Base: Savitar's identity. While almost everyone called it, reactions to it are rather mixed — some are ecstatic, others disappointed. Just about the only universal feeling is relief, because the fans were really sick of waiting for The Reveal.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Many of the later episodes of season 2 can feel like this, given that Zoom was ultimately proven correct that Barry could be corrupted and transformed into a sociopathic god wannabe like himself. As much as Barry protested it, they really are similar after all...
    • An argument can be made that all of Seasons One and Two are this. Savitar is a direct result of all the tragedy Barry has gone through in his life, and Iris' death was the breaking point. People thought Barry had hit rock bottom when he created Flashpoint, but that's not true — he's capable of falling much, much farther into despair — so far that he's willing to recreate the very tragedy that drove him so far into villainy.
  • I Knew It!: Of all the theories surrounding Savitar's identity, the most popular tended to be that he's a future version of Barry Allen, based not only on the In-Universe clues but also on his resemblance to the DCU supervillain "Future Flash" (who, like here, is a future version of Barry Allen) and the fact that he is said to be the first speedster, whereas in the comics Barry becoming the Flash created the Speed Force according to The Flash: Rebirth.
  • Narm:
    • Future Evil Barry's appearance is a bit over the top even for this show, although it does match up with Savitar's general speech patterns ("Bow before my greatness!").
    • Cisco's inability to zap Killer Frost the second time, with a close-up on his face that should be showing his inner turmoil over not being able to do it, but instead just looks like he doesn't have a care in the world. It gets even funnier when he makes no attempt to dodge the ice blast she sends his way.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: For those who have been unhappy with the bland and cliched Big Bad of the season thus far, The Reveal should allow for some very interesting and emotionally resonant plotlines going forward, in addition to retroactively making a lot of past elements in the season fall into place. Unfortunately, there are only three episodes of the season remaining to put this storytelling potential into place, and since the show usually has the Big Bad defeated by the end of the season, many feel that the plot would have had a lot more potential if his identity was revealed sooner.
  • The Un-Twist: Savitar's identity was assumed by many to be an incarnation of Future Flash long before it was revealed. This left a general feeling of it not being worth the sheer amount of time used on its mystery.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Barry tells Joe he should stop lying to Cecile about his Team Flash involvement, saying "If you love her, you should be honest with her. At least, that's what you tell me to do." That's rich given that just last season, Barry insisted on lying to his love interest Patty Spivot (even after she figured out that he was the Flash), and Joe told him that it was the right thing to do. While it may be that Barry's learned from these events, it would be nice if he acknowledged that.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome:
    • Killer Frost's ice trail looks very well-done.
    • Savitar's suit opening up to reveal Future Flash is rather amazing, just like last episode. Even though it's only CGI (maybe a partially practical version), it's REALLY WELL DONE CGI.
