YMMV / Steven Universe: Gone Wrong

Go To

  • Awesome Art: Spudinacup shows some really impressive drawing and coloring skills. Even with the dark tone and the bloody aspect of the work, she still wanted to keep the cute and cartoony style of the original source material as faithfully as possible, and she pretty much nailed it in that aspect.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • In the episode "Space Race", Greg freaked out about potentially losing his son... and here we are now.
    • Bismuth has always fought for the freedom and free will of gems, so Pearl (the original Crystal Gems Pearl, no less) accidentally regenerating as a completely submissive servant to Lapis is doubly harder for her to experience. Bismuth even lampshades it herself.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Spinel actually managed to kill Steven, and in a particularly gruesome way, making her a hell lot less sympathetic compared to the source material.
  • Stoic Woobie: Pink Steven. The loss of his human half causes him an identity crisis and is now practically unable to express any emotion outside of Tranquil Fury.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: This is a much more violent and depressing fan comic compared to other AU Steven Universe comics, which were already pretty angsty and dark in their own rights. Even people who praised the comic said that it is far too angsty and unforgivingly bleak for them to handle.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Deliberately invoked with Spinel as part of her villainous upgrade. Claiming she didn't knew Steven couldn't poof and her attempt to apologise to Pink Steven after she killed his organic half obviously doesn't land well. And if the Slasher Smile she had in the short flashback when she violently massacred Steven is any indication, she probably enjoyed killing him and wasn't (at least not entirely) genuinely remorseful.
  • The Woobie: With everyone having the tragic death of Steven on their shoulders, there's gonna be plenty.
    • Greg is arguably the biggest one. Oh boy, poor Greg. The poor man has to deal with the very worst thing that can happen to a parent: losing his own child. He can barely bring himself to accept that his son is gone and only has his gem half left, his complete breakdown is absolutely gutwrenching to witness.
    • Bismuth. Now that she's in charge, she has to keep everything and everyone together despite how cruelly desperate the situation is. You can tell she tries to be a Stoic Woobie or even an Iron Woobie by trying not to have an emotional breakdown like Peridot, Lapis and especially Greg did, but it's clear she is constantly on the verge of crying and struggles to keep herself together, especially in the most emotionally charged moments.
