Something Smells:

• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Patrick is somehow able to withdraw his head and limbs into his body until he resembles a giant wad of bubblegum. How? Why? Who cares, it's funny!
• Crosses the Line Twice: A fish crashing their boat and it exploding? Horrific. A police officer walking up to the frame of the boat (which is all that remains) and giving it a parking ticket? Hilarious!
• Ensemble Dark Horse: The blue fish (a Palette Swap expy of Fred) in the movie theater who makes a weird face and shrieks hilariously after smelling SpongeBob's breath, now known as the "Deuueaugh fish".

• Fountain of Memes: "Something Smells" has spawned no less than six memes, four of which are still highly prevalent.
• Funny Moments: "The Ugly Barnacle", which many fans consider to be the number-one funniest Patrick moment.
• Fridge Brilliance: The (Male) Mailfish cracking to reveal a female fish inside may be a reference to protogynyous Fish, who begin life as females but become male.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: SpongeBob's "I am ugly and I'm proud!" chant. Keep in mind, this was before all the claims that he was gay (or asexual).
• Memetic Mutation:
  • "Maybe it's the way you're dressed."^Explanation In 2019, the Soundcloud account "UNDERTALE OST: Recreated" did some detective work, and found out that Sans' Voice Grunting in Undertale and Deltarune was trimmed from this line by Patrick (specifically the "ay" in "maybe"). As SpongeBob, Undertale, Deltarune, and especially Sans are already Fountains of Memes, the jokes wrote themselves.
  • The Ugly Barnacle^Explanation A story told by Patrick to SpongeBob to try to help him cope with their perceived ugliness of SpongeBob. Needless to say, it doesn't work, leading to one of the show's most acclaimed Funny Moments.
  • "I'M UGLY AND I'M PROUD!"^Explanation SpongeBob's chant after Patrick encourages him to embrace his ugliness. Followed by Squidward asking "Is that what he calls it?".
  • "DEUUEAUGH!"^Explanation A disgusted shriek uttered by one theatergoer (who looks similar to Fred but is voiced by Carlos Alazraqui instead of Mr. Lawrence) after smelling SpongeBob's rancid breath. The odd sound combined with the immensely goofy expression the character makes led to it becoming a popular subject for video edits by fans. In recent times, the episode's subtitles for the shriek are written as "Deaugh!", and Nickelodeon has even released a (now sold-out) pin of the meme.
  • "LOOK AT IT!"^Explanation Patrick holding SpongeBob up and yelling at the other moviegoers has been edited to replace SpongeBob with another funny or disturbing image.
  • "YOU GAVE ME THE UGLY!"^Explanation Patrick removing a paper bag from his face to accuse SpongeBob of making him ugly has been edited to replace the starfish's head with other characters whom fans want to poke fun at.
• Nightmare Fuel: Funny as it is, Patrick sounds quite deranged when screaming at the movie theater audience for being offended by SpongeBob's "ugliness".
  Patrick: (deadly serious) I WANT ALL OF YOU TO LOOK AT IT!
• Rainbow Lens: The episode already hints at it, but many fans have come to view SpongeBob's journey to accepting his "ugliness" as allegorical for a Coming-Out Story, with SpongeBob being left dismayed over him being made into a pariah over being "ugly", until someone close to him helps him to embrace it no matter what other people think of him.
• Squick: SpongeBob's "sundae" is only mildly gross as he mixes together two ingredients that don't go together at all... and then he adds a peanut plant to it. With all the dirt still included.

Bossy Boots:

• Alternative Character Interpretation: In "Bossy Boots", it's easy to interpret Pearl as a bit of a Smarter Than You Look Manipulative Bitch who intentionally tailored her Springtime for Hitler strategy to each member of the Krusty Krew — the new uniforms to mess with Squidward, taking fried food off the menu to get under SpongeBob's skin and of course, all the exorbitant spending to scare her old man into finally firing her. The only thing she didn't account for was that Mr. Krabs wouldn't have the heart to fire his own daughter.
• Awesome Music: "Bossy Boots Song" by indie rock band The Capsules, the music that plays in the background of the Kuddly Krab. It's cutesy, sugary, saccharine psychedelic pop-rock and is absolutely spectacular. Better yet, if you listen to the lyrics, it's about how the singer has a dream about how awesome SpongeBob's world was, then goes swimming in the ocean to find it because they want to relive it.
