YMMV / Sonic Eraser

  • Bile Fascination: Not that there's anything wrong with the game, per-se, but it's still worth a look into to see a time when Sega really didn't know what to do with their new mascot and anything was on the table. That and the awful music, of course.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • The title screen and menu's storybook aesthetic is quite amusing in light of the later Sonic Storybook Series, which has Sonic outright visit storybooks.
    • You have to match up identical shapes/colors to clear them, and the pieces come in the shape of tetrominoes. In other words, it's the original Puyo Puyo Tetris.
    • The multiplayer mode features two Sonics who fight each other, effectively making the opponent an early prototype of Metal Sonic and Shadow the Hedgehog, two rivals who are counterparts to Sonic.
  • So Bad, It's Good: The Versus mode music is infamous for a good reason. Imagine trying to play a puzzle game while you're suffering from tinitus and someone is banging a saucepan with a wooden spoon in the background. That's what it's like.note
  • So Okay, It's Average: There's nothing bad about the game and it is playable, but it is an extremely basic puzzle game that has almost nothing in common with the Sonic the Hedgehog games (outside of the fact that Sonic appears) and offers nothing you can't find in other, better puzzle games, such as Tetris or Puyo Puyo.
