YMMV / Shadows House

Go To

  • Awesome Music: A large portion of fans hold the ED theme of Season 1, "Nai Nai" by ReoNa, in high regard, joking it should have been the OP theme instead of "a hollow shadow" due to the lyrics of the song and the tone fitting the setting of Shadow House better. Funnily enough, ReoNa's "Shall We Dance?" became the OP theme for Season 2, which gained a similar level of praise.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • There is some overlap between fans of Witch Hat Atelier and Shadows House despite both series being as outwardly different as you can imagine. This could be because both series are dark fantasies masquerading as something lighter; compounded with a layer of deep mystery that both fandoms can appreciate. The friendly relations further exploded when Shirahama herself drew a fan portrait of Emilico on her twitter feed.
    • Many people who were fans of The Promised Neverland often like Shadows House as well, considering the similarities between the former's introductory "Gracefield Farm" arc and the premise of the latter.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Season 1's ED Theme, "Nai Nai", was given a huge praise by the fanbase that many fans joked that it should have been the Opening theme. When Season 2 aired, ReoNa (The singer of the season 1 ED Theme) sung for the Opening theme of that season.
    • Emilico's JP VA is Yū Sasahara who was later announced to be the VA for Lynette from Genshin Impact. Given that both Lynette and Emilico are acrobats, fans immediately drew connections.
  • Magnificent Bastard: The gallant Maryrose is one-half of the Robe, the hooded figure conspiring against Shadow House. As one of the few who knows the true nature of the Shadow House, she plans to escape after learning they plan to force her and her Living Doll Rosemary to unify at the expense of Rosemary's life. Working with Anthony, Maryrose made Soot attacks to delay the Unification to find an exit, before sabotaging the house as much as she can when realizing escape is impossible, masterminding the Phantom attack to destroy the coffee that brainwashes the Living Dolls while framing the Belle twins. When Kate figures her out, Maryrose decides to test her and see if she can lead the fight in her stead through lessons in combat, before teaming with her after her capture in a final Phantom attack to sough chaos in the Adult Building and try kill Edward, before defiantly jumping with Rosemary to their doom or escape after ruining Edward's standing, setting the stage for Kate and her friends to end the Shadow House's machiavellic system.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Quite a number of Shadows House fans weren't too pleased with the anime original ending of Season 1, thinking it wouldn't be a big deal if the season ended in the middle of the next arc, as they felt it not only disrupted the story flow of the manga, but it also spoils the heavy plot twist that Rum and Shirley are still alive much sooner than when it was revealed. It didn't help that many found the last two episodes to be a case of Edward holding the Idiot Ball. Fortunately, Season 2 stayed far more faithful to the manga and manages to successfully implement Master Robe back into the plot.
