- Broken Base: Necrophagist themselves. They're either excellent musicians who define Technical Death Metal and Suiçmez is either a brilliant songwriter, or Necrophagist are souless wankers who are against what Death Metal stands for and Suiçmez is a sub-par songwriter putting flash over substance.
- Within the fanbase, Epitaph is this. Some fans think that it was where they truly came into their own, others think that it's a boring, meandering mess of uninteresting riffing and excessively long, aimless guitar solos, which is certainly what Muenzner and Grossmann have both come to see it as.
- Memetic Mutation: Jokes about whether or not Necrophagist would ever make their third album. The jokes are compared to that of Wintersun's "Time II", Tool's fifth album, A Perfect Circle's "Eat the Elephant", or even Half-Life 3.
- More Popular Spin-Off: Obscura, which not only contains a slew of members from Necrophagist, but they have a achieved far greater success compared to Necrophagist.
- Old Shame: Subverted with Muenzner and Grossmann in terms of their time spent in the band. Yeah, neither of them are fond of Epitaph or their experiences with Muhammed Suicmez, but they do appreciate their work with the band for what it is: the thing that put them on the map and got their names out there.
- Signature Song: "Fermented Offal Discharge"
