YMMV / Nameless Asterism

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Is Subaru romantically attracted to his sister or are his feelings overbearing but purely platonic? Is he bisexual, gay or asexual? note
  • Anti-Climax: Given that there is No Romantic Resolution, nor do any of the secrets the main cast are keeping from each other get revealed, some might feel that the series has a lot of build up towards a dramatic conclusion without any ultimate payoff.
  • Audience-Alienating Premise: The series is centred on Love Triangles between three girls, and another between one of the girls, her cross-dressing twin brother, and another boy where the brother pretends to be his sister in an attempt to turn away the boy who likes her.It turned off Yuri Fans who disliked male characters being involved in the main relationships. The premise also didn't appeal to people looking for a manga with a more serious take on LGBT themes because of the arguably contrived nature of the love triangles and the nature of the cross-dressing character.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Kotooka is either loved for being one of the most complex characters or hated for being a Heteronormative Crusader out to destroy any possibility of any girl getting with another.
    • Readers either liked the interactions between Subaru and Asakura and thought they were more interesting than the love triangle between Tsukasa, Washio, and Kotooka, or disliked Subaru and Asakura for taking focus away from said love triangle.
  • Broken Base: The manga itself is a divisive topic in places where yuri series are discussed. Is it a bad example of the Yuri Genre but decent in its own right, or is it absolutely terrible? Was Kobayashi Kina a talented writer who was simply not given enough time to properly finish the series due to unforgiving fans or is she an awful writer who should never be allowed to touch a story involving LGBT characters again?
    • A bonus comic in the final volume mentions that Tsukasa gets a boyfriend when she's older, resulting in fans debating over whether she was intended to be bisexual or whether her feelings for Washio were supposed to be just a phase.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Kotooka, whose Heteronormative Crusader behaviour is the result of being a closeted lesbian with a large amount of internalized homophobia.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Tsukasa and Asakura discovering that Subaru has been crossdressing as the former to get the latter to stop liking her seems like it would be good source of drama and conflict, particularly given Asakura and Subaru's developing attraction towards each other. However, this plot thread is Left Hanging along with the rest of the romantic plots.
