  • Angst? What Angst?: Chapter 3 has the infamous "nice rump" scene where the con man takes an opportunity to grab Diana's butt and proceeds to taunt her about it, which she understandably didn't take well. Yet, after the con man has been dealt with, Diana doesn't seem at all distressed by the fact that she was violated by a Dirty Old Man.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
    • The aforementioned infamous "nice rump" scene in the third chapter in which Diana gets sexually harassed by the (very old) con man, which was then completely forgotten about afterward. The fact that the manga played it for laughs is an entirely different matter... It doesn't help that the scene is incredibly jarring and out of place even within the manga, which is otherwise lighthearted and mostly on par with the rest of the franchise.
    • The fifth chapter has Akko picking up and sniffing a poisonous mushroom, resulting in her going into a Mushroom Samba. The whole incident is just an excuse to make Akko lose her fishing rod, and wasn't mentioned again afterward.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Ms. Manbavaran is incredibly popular amongst the fandom for being the mother to the already popular Sucy, on top of her alluring design.
  • Fanon: There's no official word that states that the manga is a Prequel to the short films or that it's even in the same continuity as them, however, the fact that it was released in close proximity to the short films and that the first chapter shows off Akko's first day at Luna Nova and her first meetings with Lotte, Sucy, Diana, Hannah and Barbara (something the first film skips over), on top of the Shiny Rod being limited to flashbacks has led fans to place it as such.
  • Memetic Mutation: Akko (smiling, but empty internally)Explanation
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: Thanks to the infamous "Nice rump" scene in the third chapter, this manga is forever remembered by the LWA fandom as "the one where Diana gets groped".
  • Tearjerker: Chapter 2 is filled with this.
    • Akko's attachment to her golem, Lemmy. Despite the fact that maintaining his existence was draining Akko of magical energy to dangerous levels and her friends (including Diana) attempts to dissuade her, she still refuses to destroy him due to the love and care she put in creating him.
    • Akko destroying Lemmy when he goes on a rampage and attempts to bring harm to Diana, Hannah and Barbara. It is later implied that Lemmy was sentient enough to recognise his master's dilemma and purposely went berserk to force Akko's hand.
    Akko: "LEMMY YOU DUMMY!!"
    • The scene of Akko bawling her eyes out after looking at the picture Lemmy drew for her following his destruction.
  • Unfortunate Character Design: When the Con Man's true nature is revealed, while clearly not intentional, he is shown to be wearing a wizard robe with a hood that when put on, ends up looking rather similar to a klansman costume.
