YMMV / Kamen Rider Zero-One Others: MetsubouJinrai

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: If you thought Horobi was too Easily Forgiven in the series, one thing you can at least thank Lyon Arkland for is giving him his just comeuppance in the movie.
  • Informed Wrongness: Kidnapping Jin aside, Lyon's plan to sell Solds is presented as an Evil Plan, since MetsubouJinrai.net see them as fellow Humagears. Except, unlike the Humagears Hiden Intelligence markets, Lyon's Solds are hooked up to a collective consciousness rather than given their own individual wills. This is presented as a bad thing since it keeps the Solds from becoming sentient, but the fact that they aren't sentient means Lyon technically isn't oppressing any living being, as the Solds never developed individual wills until after they were set free from the Mass Brain System.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Lyon Arkland/Kamen Rider Zaia is the charismatic and charming CEO of ZAIA Enterprise. Desiring to sell his Solds on the mass market, Lyon Arkland kidnaps Jin in order to lure the rest of MetsubouJinrai.net out and tricks them into becoming Kamen Rider MetsubouJinrai to create an enemy for his Solds to fight. When As tries to tempt him into become another Ark, Lyon insightfully points out why justice will always trump malice before shooting her dead. He later crashes an AIMS press conference and sways public opinion to his side by painting his company as the victim while using AIMS's ties to MetsubouJinrai.net to discredit them. Though killed by Kamen Rider MetsubouJinrai, Lyon dies with a triumphant "ZAIA forever!" and ultimately gets the last laugh from beyond the grave: his Solds are needed to defeat Metsuboujinrai and his actions result in over half the Zero-One Riders being taken out of commission as well as the public view on Humagears turning negative once more, singlehandedly undoing everything Aruto and his allies worked for.
  • Narm: The use of slow-Mo during As’s death, the fact that Arkland does a finger gun gesture before hand and the lack of any clarity that she was shot beyond a shot of Sword-20 holding a pistol kills any tension in the scene.
  • Rooting for the Empire: Lyon Arkland had a number of fans who were rooting for him instead. It's helped by the fact that he's extremely flamboyant and likeable, refrains from the pointlessly Stupid Evil behaviors other Zero-One villains engage in, and spends most of his time smacking down characters who were let off far too easily and pointing out valid issues and stupid decisions other characters have made. Say what you will about Zero-One's Downer Ending, you can't deny Lyon didn't deserve to win to some degree.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: There are lot of fans who found Lyon Arkland to be a compelling and charismatic villain, and wish he'd stuck around for the next movie.
    • Many fans say the same thing about As, who never really amounted to anything in the end beyond getting outplayed 3 times in a row trying to set up a new Ark and spread malice and then getting unceremoniously killed off before ever getting a proper face off with the heroes. In fact beyond a brief mental communication she never interacted with Is, her heroic counterpart at all.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Azu's death is played sympathetically, with her even getting a makeshift funeral from MetsubouJinrai.net. But considering she had no personality beyond wanting to spread malice and was actively trying to create more Arks, Lyon unceremoniously killing her feels a lot more like she got her just comeuppance instead.
