• Ensemble Dark Horse: Ophilia Karait.
• Harsher in Hindsight: When trying to convince Stephen White not to commit suicide, Mercy says, "I...I don't want to see Thestrals, not yet." During the goblin attack on Hogwarts, Mercy is one of the Hufflepuffs to witness Alduin's murder.
• Jerkass Woobie: Strangely enough, Pansy Parkinson comes across as this - she Did Not Get The Guy, Draco married Astoria Greengrass and she became a Struggling Single Mother who is shunned by the Wizarding World for suggesting handing over Harry to Voldemort, but she did it to protect her unborn daughter. She's still a haughty Alpha Bitch and a bigot against Muggles, but it's hard not to feel sorry for her, especially as she's turned to drinking to cope with her lot and Draco apparently sees her as an unfit mother.

• Never Live It Down: Pansy Parkinson's attempt to give Harry up to Voldemort has naturally haunted her every since. But it turns out she was already pregnant with Violet, and not quite thinking straight in her attempts to keep her unborn child safe. Harry knows why she did it, and he doesn't hold it against her.
• One-Scene Wonder: Luna Lovegood only appears in one chapter, but she gives Violet some important exposition on why Pansy is the way she is and provides some contest of what it was like during the war. She then warns Violet about eavesdropping because, "People seldom like what they hear."
• Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Chloe is pretty much set up as an intentional Scrappy, but she is redeemed in the later parts of the fic by turning her into The Atoner, and at the end having her make a Heroic Sacrifice. Which almost kills her, but though she survives she's drained of all her magic and essentially becomes a Squib. It's hard to hate her at all after that, especially when she takes it philosophically instead of growing bitter.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Calliope Young is introduced as a hotshot young Auror who kicks quite a lot of ass during the battle against the goblins, but she's killed off quite unceremoniously and only receives some belated backstory when Ophilia explains We Used to Be Friends.
• The Woobie: After the war, Hogwarts pretty much turned into a world of woobie.
