YMMV / Helluva Boss S1E0 "Pilot"

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Was Eddie the real target all along, or was Loona lying about that to get revenge on him? The reveal of him being the real target coming shortly after Eddie insulted I.M.P seems to make things a bit too convenient for them, considering that he insulted Loona last, which implies that she made him their mark as payback. Not to mention she's the receptionist responsible for giving out the identities of their targets and no one ever bothers checking her info outside of a few quick questions. On the other hand, she was scrolling her phone before making this statement and sounded legitimately surprised when she brought up the text confirming Eddie was the intended target.
  • Alternative Joke Interpretation: Blitzo has Stolas listed in his contacts under "Bird Dick". Is this a demeaning nickname for Stolas, or an indication that he has avian genitalia?
  • Angst? What Angst?: For a boy that has been shot, endured Worst Aid, is in Hell while still alive while being taken care of by real demons, Eddie takes all those in stride and wastes no time insulting I.M.P.
  • Crosses the Line Twice:
    • Blitzo stalking Moxxie & Millie outside of work to the point where he's shown to have broken into their house multiple times without them noticing, violating their privacy by RECORDING Moxxie serenading his wife Millie, watching them while they sleep, and, as revealed in Episode 7, Ozzie's, watching the two having sexual intercourse, would be horrifying beyond words in real life and in a serious story, but it manages to be completely hilarious due to how casual Blitzo is about it, as well as the goofy smiles he makes in the montage of him stalking his employees.
    • Stolas's highly sexual, overly profane rant towards Blitzo. It would be straight out of an R-rated horror film if it weren't for it being heavily censored as well as the absurd, twitchy-eyed smile Stolas makes as he does it. The fact that Blitzo immediately stuffs his phone in a blender, liquefies it, and orders Loona to drink it up and then shit it off the overpass, which she actually obeys also makes it a lot less horrifying.
    • I.M.P. murdering Eddie and posthumously mutilating his corpse would be completely horrifying and a Moral Event Horizon, even if the kid was a Jerkass as well as just an all around unpleasant individual if it weren't for Blitzo delivering an inspirational speech about I.M.P. about how Blitzo wants to prove that his species are capable of doing things that anybody else can do, which devolves into utter hilarity the second that he reveals his sole reason is killing people, and how he, outright states that he will NEVER give his customers a refund, and that company will play dumb and get away with it due to everyone in Hell being apathetic to such things if his customers give a bad review of his business. It helps that the caption for the news simply states that how much of a Terrible Artist his mother is while his actual dissapearance is relegated to being part of the Crawl, which also has them "solve" it by literally dumping the remains of Eddie in a body bag on live television into his grieving, visibly traumatized mothers arms.
    • The soul of someone who killed his wife for cheating on him seeking revenge against the person who witnessed him hiding the body would be a disturbing concept. But it's portrayed through the sinner demon casually talking about "lovingly" murdering his wife on a TV ad with upbeat music playing, being surprised that he ended up in Hell, and all the while Blitzo is holding up a crudely-made "Some guy who hired us!!" sign in wood, making it funny.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: During the advertisement, Blitzo portrays someone getting sent to Hell "wrongfully" simply because they tossed a paper cup into a trash can instead of a recycle bin. Later episodes and expanded material would go on to imply that Heaven is incredibly picky (and incredibly petty) about letting souls enter it, to the point where something as simple as failing to recycle a paper cup very well could get you sent to Hell.
