YMMV / Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: When it comes to Ron's good looks, is Harry envious or uncomfortable?
  • Angst? What Angst?: Hermione seems more bothered by Harry and Ron not clumping happily than the latter devouring her family.
  • Bizarro Episode: The whole thing Runs on Nonsensoleum.
  • Dancing Bear: Being made by an AI is the primary appeal and joke — it's otherwise just a short Harry Potter crackfic.
  • Designated Hero: Most of Harry's actions and thoughts come off as mean-spirited (when they're not outright insane), especially whenever Ron is involved. Not that Ron's much better — he eats Hermione's family. Hermione doesn't do anything bad, but the narration doesn't say she tried to save her family; she also seems more annoyed at Harry and Ron not "clump[ing] happily" than that Ron had just eaten her family, implying she was totally fine with it happening.
  • Designated Villain: The Death Eaters don't attempt anything villainous throughout the story aside from planning to get rid of Harry's magic, which wouldn't be necessarily a bad thing given how Harry and his friends are portrayed in the story. The only thing that points to them being villains is that they "looked bad", which could simply mean they look unattractive.
  • Fan Nickname: This version of Harry, Ron, and Hermione are occasionally dubbed "the Gilded Trio".
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Ron's Ron shirt was just as bad as Ron himself." Explanation
    • "BEEF WOMEN!" Explanation
    • "Hermione has forgotten how to dance." Explanation
  • One-Scene Wonder: Mr. Staircase, the Shabby-Robed Ghost. There's also the tall unnamed Death Eater who memorably wears a shirt mocking Hermione's dancing skills.
  • Signature Scene: The infamous sentence where everything starts becoming... surreal.
He [Ron] saw Harry and immediately began to eat Hermione's family.
