YMMV / GG Allin

Go To

  • Bile Fascination: Many people who have watched his shows (live or taped) often do it for this reason. Considering GG's actions on stage, this trope was sometimes taken literally.
  • Chorus-Only Song: "Castration Crucifixion."
  • Critic-Proof: You can talk about how disgusting and deplorable GG is till you're blue in the face, and plenty of critics and casual listeners have, but this means approximately nothing to his devoted cult following.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: At a minimum.
  • Epic Riff: "Bite It, You Scum," and how - it's more or less repeated through the whole song, save for a sloppy guitar solo. Also, "Assface," courtesy of the poppiest band GG ever fronted, the Jabbers.
  • Fan Nickname: "The Geege."
  • Growing the Beard: Of the Genghis Khan-looking variety, anyway. His early years with the Jabbers saw a young GG in comparatively decent voice, merely being obnoxious and demeaning to women. E.M.F. (Eat My Fuc) is where GG truly fell in love with shock for the sake of shock, with songs about drinking, rape, murder, and his god complex, with hoarse vocals and no production quality whatsoever. You know, the GG we know and love to loathe.
  • Memetic Molester: It comes with the territory. See for yourself.
  • Narm:
    • Songs like "I Wanna Rape You," "Bite It, You Scum," "Expose Yourself to Kids," and "Suck My Ass, It Smells" are so over the top, it stops them from being offensive and moves them into this trope.
    • This reaction was the reason a lot of people went to see his shows; there was something revolting yet unutterably fascinating about GG's freak-show performances. People still joke about him today.
    • GG was so over the top, in fact, that there have been serious discussions among fans (and non-fans) over the years about how much of his deplorable behavior was merely an on-stage persona, and how much was real. If you think much of it was the former, obviously, that makes GG that much more Narmtastic.
  • Nausea Fuel: His raison d'etre. A good way to tell if you were at a GG Allin concert was if you or the lead singer was covered in shit or blood.
    • In one interview, GG boasted about someone throwing a dead cat on stage, where he, uh, had his way with it.
    • All of his songs about underage girls will probably require some serious Brain Bleach.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: In the long run, GG has proved to be known first and foremost for his violent, unhinged live performances, not to mention the misanthropic attitude and disgusting personal hygiene that came with it. His music, regardless of quality, is almost incidental.
  • Signature Song: "Bite It, You Scum"; his anarchist outlook summed up in one ugly, muddy, punk rock anthem.
  • Tear Jerker: "When I Die." No, really. GG more or less wrote his own epitaph and set it to a minimalist arrangement, and the result is easily the most solemn thing he put to tape.
