YMMV / Friday Night Funkin' WITH LYRICS

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • As part of Pico's lyrics spouting various Newgrounds shout-outs, he has the lyric of "I'll bring out the tank, man; don't make me do it to win!" during the lyrical rendition of "Pico". Week 7's opponent in the official game just so happened to be Tankman. Double hilarious since Pico shows up in Week 7 as well.
    • In "Hex WITH LYRICS", Hex unintentionally punches Daddy Dearest while rebooting. The later-released Weekend update for Vs. Hex would see Dearest return the favor, slugging Hex after he gets taken over by IRIS.
    • In "Unloaded WITH LYRICS", Ski is among the children Pico is telling his war story to, though according to her creator, Bluefrok, she's 19 years old. On July 9th, 2023, Rodrigo, Ski's current owner, retconned her age to 9, making her an actual child.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "He taught me how to blow..."Explanation
    • "Why is it raining guns?"Explanation
    • "What's wrong with you?"Explanation
    • TordVPN!Explanation
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • This exchange from the climax of "Mid-Fight Masses", where Sarvente goes from being pushy-but-firm to being agitated enough to outright threaten The Girlfriend with death:
Girlfriend: Don't worry, the Boyfriend, I'm calling my parents!
Sarvente: No, you are not, you little leech! You sit on that stereo and bob your head or you won't have a head left to bob!
    • Once Monster enters in Week 5, he manifests all the previous opponents from 1-5 as he prepares to transforms them into his "friends". The result is sickening, as you can hear the cracking sounds as all their heads transforms into fruit-based monsters like him.
    • Too Slow With Lyrics brings us RecD and co's version of Sonic.exe, and at no point is he anything other than funkin' terrifying, with a deep voice, a maniacal tone, and unlike the original mod, he completely no-sells Girlfriend's attempt to fight back when he reacts poorly to being beaten.
    • In Defeat & Finale With Lyrics, once Boyfriend mentions that he likely won't come back if he's killed in the Defeat void... this accidentally instigates Black to reach FURTHER heights and a grander-scale plan; if he assassinates every crewmate and impostor there, he could take permanent command of the Airship and become a signature serial killer. Simply put, had Boyfriend lost or had Girlfriend not intervened in time, this plan would've come into fruition.
Boyfriend: What if... What if I don't come back?
Black: ...A permanent death? I could kill... without my hard work being undone by that cursed ship?!
Boyfriend: I just funked up real bad, didn't I?
Black: If I didn't have to keep tricking those moronic crewmates and lesser impostors forever, I could take permanent command of the Airship... Fly to new worlds... Slaughter new beings... DEAD BODIES OF INFINITE VARIETY!
    • "Finale" has Boyfriend realizing that Black just might be the parasitic alien force that's created impostors in the first place, calling him things like a "cosmic horror curse" and if the lyrics are anything to go by, he's terrified. If the original lore of the Impostor mod is to be believed: Boyfriend's realization is true.
Boyfriend: What's left of you? Are you Black? Who the funk am I singing this line to?!
    • The very end of Defeat & Finale With Lyrics is nothing short of unnerving. Despite getting Boyfriend to safety, Girlfriend sticks behind to really stick in the terror Black caused, coming brutally close to crushing his body and permanently silencing him. She does stop once Black gives her a "The Reason You Suck" Speech concerning how long she's been keeping things out of Boyfriend's mind and that he'd eventually get in the loop and break up with her as a result. With this, she instead leaves him with a Fate Worse than Death; his soul permanently separated from his body and owned by Girlfriend while he has no body to go back to.
    • The ending of Twinsomnia With Lyrics shows that Lila was actually Lemon Demon in disguise and while Boy and Girl are able to get him to leave Skid and Pump alone, since they can't protect adults, he sprouts wings and flies away, more than likely going after Boyfriend again while Boy and Girl can do nothing to protect him.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic:
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The Girlfriend is horrified when she learns that the Boyfriend was planning to get her demonic father exorcized. The issue is that the Boyfriend wanted to do this because her father was making repeated attempts on his life, something she knows full well. What's more, by the time she finds this out, she met three of her parents' victims, the Spirit, Whitty, and Garcello, people whose lives were ruined thanks to her family, and the first one was her ex. Father or not, there's no excuse for her to see Boyfriend in the wrong. It gets worse when you remember she callously covered up the Spirit's fate and is implied to be after the Boyfriend's soul.
