YMMV / F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch

Go To

  • Magnificent Bastard: Cicero is a commander for the Machine Legion and a former resistance war hero. Seeking power and hoping to preserve and evolve the furtizens in Torch City, Cicero faked his death during the war and willingly chose to become a cyborg. Afterwards, he sought out the Spark so he could use its power to turn the inhabitants of Torch City into cyborgs like him. To cover up his schemes, he imposed a curfew and arrested or killed any members of the rebellion who stood in his path, including his former colleague, Rayton. When one of the Sparks is destroyed, Cicero allows Rayton and his ally, Lady Q, to procure a second one before stealing it from them and leaving them both to die in an underground temple. Even after Rayton escapes his demise and confronts Cicero to try and take back the Spark, Cicero single-handedly fights against Rayton and shows him the powers of the Spark when utilized properly.
  • Spiritual Successor: With the premise on how the robotic Iron Dogs have taken over most of the Shadow Torch, and opposing them are the local resistance, and all of the characters are humanoid animals. This is the closest thing to a Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) game that we play (minus a Robotnik figure and Super-Speed).
  • That One Achievement: Getting the "Power Seeker" achievement requires you to collect all 4 mystery shards, and while the first one is simply bought from a merchant, the acquisition of the other 3 all comes with their own fair shares of pain. One of them requires you to collect 44 plant seeds, most of which are tucked away in obscure and/or hard-to-reach places; one requires you to complete the Master Training, which asks you to perform a series of combos with very strict timing; and the last one is only acquired after having spent enough money eating at the noodle shop, which you'll probably never figure out without consulting a guide.
  • That One Level: The underwater sections are mightily annoying - you're pretty much stuck to using the drill, the enemies - while not particularly tough - can all swim faster than you, there are environmental hazards aplenty, and naturally you have to mind your oxygen meter or you'll be toast in no time flat. Finding the Oxygen mask takes the sting out of those levels somewhat, but not by much.
  • That One Sidequest: Collecting all the posters. Most of them are fairly straight-forward, being either out in the open for you to acquire or granted as boss fight rewards. However, there's a particular one in the Western Range which requires you to keep talking to an NPC to exhaust his dialogue lines in order to unlock it, and the game gives you absolutely no hint that this is even possible in the first place.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: The setting is the Second Sino-Japanese War with animals. The Iron Dogs wore 1930s Japanese army caps and include many Japanese visual elements (with the Elite Mooks being modeled after a samurai); Shadow Torch is based on WW2 occupied Shanghai; "rabbit" is a popular 2010s Chinese net slang for "tovarish", and his best friend is a Chummy Commies bear...
