YMMV / Enclave Reborn

Go To

  • Common Knowledge: Many unfamiliar with the finer details of the mod, as well as elements of the fanbase that find the mod overrated and/or antithetical to the themes of Fallout, assume it's a mod about the Enclave becoming a morally good faction. This is not entirely true. How evil or good Granite can be is purely dependant on player choice. In addition. the mod was released with the Purists(whom would like be the worst faction in the Wasteland that early in OWB's development, and worse than the vast majority of factions ingame even to this day), as the only route available, with Granite's reformers being added only in a later update. While this perception might have held some weight during earlier version of the mod when the Enclave was little more than a blip outside of New Reno, by the time of Enclave+/Enclave Reborn Redux, base OWB has introduced a network of Enclave remnants around the Chicago Enclave much more committed to the genocidal aims of the Enclave in general, and thus the Sierra Enclave would be more turning against the rest of the Enclave in fully reforming itself. In addition the Sierra Enclave, in its' good route, is shown to disavow the rest of the Enclave and their actions going back to the pre-war period in order to reform the United States to live up to its' founding values.
  • Complete Monster: Franklin Anderson is the leader of the Purist Faction of the Enclave remnants in Nevada, fanatical genetic purists fully adhering to the ideology of the Richardson administration. If allowed to take power by Sergeant Arch Dornan, Anderson would purge the Enclave's reformist faction. Establishing a foothold in Nevada, Anderson would launch a genocide of the Nevada Wasteland's population on the basis that mutations were a "crime against humanity". When war is declared against the NCR, Anderson would deploy the Forced Evolutionary Virus against the NCR and use the war as a pretext to seize dictatorial powers. Upon the defeat of the NCR, Anderson would establish a totalitarian Police State where both suspected mutants and political opponents are enslaved, killed, or experimented on. Seeking to spread the Enclave across the world, Anderson would launch wars on the wastelands of Canada and Mexico, with the ultimate goal of destroying what remained of China out of spite over America's destruction in the Great War.
  • Cult Classic: Despite having ceased development in 2022, the mod is one of the more popular submods for Old World Blues to the point where a fan continuation was made to keep it updated while expanding the focus trees further.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: While averted with the mod's portrayal of the Enclave proper—the Enclave is worse than the vast majority of OWB's base factions with Anderson in power and even Granite's reformists can go down a rather dark path, the mod has influenced fan perceptions of the canon Enclave in this direction, through said perceptions have mostly died down. It is very common to see Enclave fans project the Reformer vs. Purist conflict presented in this mod onto the canon Enclave, arguing that the former actually existed in canon and could have turned the Enclave away from its' genocidal goals, usually using Colonel Autumn's conflict with Eden over the Purifier in Fallout 3 or the Enclave Remnants in Fallout: New Vegas as proof. This is despite the fact that while sympathetic Enclave members do exist, there is no concrete evidence in canon that there was a sizable faction of Enclave members that were fully opposed to the genetic purist goals of the organization and a case could be made that Autumn's own opposition to Eden was based more wanting to control the Capital wasteland over moral qualmsnote .
  • Friendly Fandoms: With the various fanmade map and content expansion submods for OWB(ie: Rustbelt Rising, East Coast Rebirth, Fountain of Dreams) currently in development. This is because the Enclave is featured as a major antagonist in the all of the fanmade expansion mods(with East Coast Rebirth incorporating the storyline of Fallout 3 and expanding on the Autumn vs. Eden power struggle in said game) and said Enclave holdouts being either authoritarian at best(Autumn) or genocidal purist(Chicago, Eden) at worst makes are seen to make a good Foil contrasting Granite's reformist Enclave that it can fight. In addition, the developers for all of these mods have show a greater enthusiasm with regards to incorporating the Enclave into their mods in contrast to the more tepid manner that OWB devs has approached the concept of Enclave holdouts in their the base mod itself. When Rustbelt Rising released its' first release(which was a pure map expansion mod into the Midwest with no focus tree content), the developer of said mod expressed hope on discord that fans of the Reformer route in ERX would enjoy the new content and make a compatibility patch linking the mods together soon.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: As the reformers, taking the decision to make New Vegas and autonomous can appear to be wayy too lenient towards Mr.House after some implications given in the Amazon series that Mr.House may be privy and even complicit to discussions that resulted in the Great War.
  • Hype Backlash: This mod, while agreed to be one of the better submods for HOI4 gets this from fans that do not like the Enclave on the OWB discord. These fans tend to find discussions about ERB and the Enclave overshadowing other factions on the OWB subreddit or believe the mod to introduce excessively apologetic takes on the Enclave that dosen't have much basis in Canon.
