  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Considering the revelation that Hazar was actually a loyal CIA black operative posing as a Middle-Eastern Terrorist the entire time, it's ambiguous how much of his sociopathic behavior and antics throughout the movie are genuine and how much are him "getting into character" for when he tortures and kills the President as part of the ruse.
    • The reason behind the Vice President's death has two possible interpretations. 1) Herbert was killing him solely to cover his tracks. 2) Herbert killed him out of anger and disillusionment at the Vice President seeming more concerned with how he didn't get to be President than with the failure of the goals behind the conspiracy and the death of Herbert's loyal subordinate Hazar.
  • Ass Pull: While Herbert being a bad guy was foreshadowed a bit and given some justification The Vice President also being involved feels more unnecessary and thrown in.
  • Complete Monster:
    • Agent Morris is a corrupt Secret Service agent worse than even the callous terrorist Hazar. Disgusted at the weakness of President William Alan Moore after once having taken a bullet for him, Morris arranges the attack on Air Force One to kill everyone aboard and sabotages his fellow agents' parachutes to kill them. Executing several of his own allies to prove a point, Morris locates Moore and delights in savagely beating him down before handing him to Hazar to be stuffed and mounted. Morris later attempts to murder Moore himself, along with the young Oskari, who's been helping Moore.
    • The Vice President, and CIA hardliner Fred Herbert, are the secret masterminds of the plot so the former can rise to power and the latter can force America to the "strength" he feels it needs. Arranging for Hazar, Herbert's best agent, to attack in collaboration with Morris, the two intend for no survivors and to make Moore into a martyr to justify a new campaign in The War on Terror. Upon the failure of the plan, Herbert smoothly executes the Vice President to prevent any trace from getting back to him.
  • Evil Is Cool: Hazar has a very charmingly Faux Affably Evil onscreen presence, with some ominous and humorous lines, and Mehmet Kurtuluş looks quite good in Hazar's expensive-looking leather and mock Great White Hunter getup.
  • Homegrown Hero: A President's plane gets shot down over Lapland? Which President? The US President, of course.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Why yes, that is Schultze the tank driver from Sisu playing young Askari.
