- Broken Base:
- Reception to Tynion's run has been highly mixed. One crowd likes it as a return to more traditional Batman stories after Tom King's more esoteric run. Another crowd preferred King's more unconventional and psychologically-driven take, and find that Tynion's to be a case of It's the Same, Now It Sucks!. Then there are others who just think it's So Okay, It's Average, or dislike the number of original characters Tynion keeps adding.
- Tynion's new creations vs the Bat-Family. After the Joker War went out of its way to address the criticism of Batman alienating himself from his family during Tom King’s run, subsequent storylines have placed heavier focus on original characters Tynion has created rather than the established supporting cast such as Ghost-Maker and Clownhunter. Whether they are interesting in their own right or blatant Creator's Pet varies by reader.
- This criticism basically disappeared after Tynion revealed that pretty much every pre-established character was in constant editorial limbo in the build-up to 5Gnote . The reason Tynion created so many new characters was because they were the only ones he definitively knew that he could use!
- Growing the Beard: Some readers find that it improves after Joker War, when Tynion was confirmed to stay on the title for the long run. Some also consider it an improvement over his Detective Comics (Rebirth) run.
- Like You Would Really Do It: It's pretty much a given that no regular comic readers expect Alfred Pennyworth's death to seriously stick — though given Fear State turning out to be the finale to the run, it won't be undone in this run.
- Obvious Judas: Simon Saint's entire plan to transform Gotham into a Police State basically hinges on the belief that he and The Scarecrow are in a mutually beneficial partnership. Unsurprisingly, Scarecrow immediately betrays Saint instead of taking a dive for the Magistrate as Crane refuses to follow the plan and dial back on terrorizing Gotham when it's so close to realizing true terror.
- Win Back the Crowd: A lot of people took issue with how Tynion wrote Batman in his Detective Comics run, making him ineffectual to prop up other characters. That notably isn't the case here, with Bruce being as effective as usual.
