YMMV / Armored Core 4

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: The final mission's boss, Joshua in the 00-ARETHA, can be killed almost effortlessly with dual OGOTO grenade launchers.
  • Awesome Music: Armored Core 4 marked the shift from techno soundtrack to more experimental post-rock genre with a bit of forlorn orchestra thrown in, fitting with sleek yet desolate vibe of the 4/4A duology. "Prayer", "Agitator", and "Thinker" are all very good tracks.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: The game's shift in pacing means that missions go by a lot quicker compared to prior games, which was a reoccurring complaint among critics and players alike.
  • Moral Event Horizon: If you needed any more implication that every last one of the Corporations in the 4 series are full of serpentine bastards, it will be gone after the last mission of Armored Core 4. Why? Their thanks for you taking down Rayleonard and saving their collective hides is trying to kill you for it, after burning your colony to the ground and presumably killing pretty much everyone in it. Oh, and they blackmail your partner and one of your closest friends into it, because if he didn't, they would've done the same to his colony.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Sherring, the first Original faced by the player, is voiced by Nolan North. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune came out a few months after AC4.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Some of the levels can look very nice thanks to the art directions combined with the graphics filters. "Desert Wolf", "Sea of Blood", "Break the White Lance", and "Sol Dios" are pretty good examples.
  • Tear Jerker: The final battle. After an entire game of fighting alongside White Glint and each of you earning your own individual, terrifying reputations, Omer blackmails him into destroying Anatolia by holding his own colony hostage. Worst yet it's all engineered to kill both Anatolia's Mercenary and Joshua both. Joshua by the machine he's forced to pilot and the Mercenary by Joshua. Just to twist the knife the dialogue in the battle make very clear Joshua didn't want to do it, but knows that the act was unforgivable regardless and accepts any hatred Anatolia's Mercenary might have for him. The final tell that it was Omer blackmailing Joshua on Hard Mode they send Celo, their main LYNX, just to make sure to finish Anatolia's Mercenary off while weak in the event they defeat Joshua. By the events of For Answer it's apparent that the Mercenary didn't hold Anatolia's destruction against Joshua, having gone on to work with Ab Marsh to create a new White Glint, wear Joshua's mantle by taking his moniker and emblem as their own, and continued to serve as an insurmountable obstacle to the efforts of Omer in their One-Man Army defense of Line Ark.
