Trapped in Hyperspace was a Toonami Total Immersion Event that aired from Monday, September 16-Friday, September 20, 2002. It was accompanied by a Flash game on the official Toonami website (which is not online as of now - however the training level was given in a corrupted beta form to a Lost Media Wiki member by one of the developers.)
The plot of the TIE: TOM tests out a new hyperspace function on the Absolution, but a Computer Virus named Swayzak attacks the ship and traps him in hyperspace, threatening to crash the ship into the Earth. TOM has to find a way to enter the Absolution's systems and fight Swayzak.
Trapped in Hyperspace contains examples of:
- Badass in Distress: TOM in the last level of the game, where he's infected by Swayzak too.
- Brain Uploading: Technically how TOM can jack into the systems.
- Cyberspace: The setting of the game.
- Computer Virus: Swayzak, who infects the Absolution.
- FaceāHeel Turn: TOM in the last level of the game, after Swayzak infects him.
- Faster-Than-Light Travel: The Absolution is in hyperspace for most of the arc.
- Inside a Computer System: The setting of the game.
- No Name Given: Swayzak refuses to tell TOM who he is in episode 1. In the game, he was called "Menace". It isn't until episode 3 that TOM mentions his name is Swayzak.
- Nothing Is Scarier: At the end of the September 19 broadcast, we see TOM lying on the floor after he's jacked into the last system, and we hear Swayzak's Evil Laugh. Sure enough, Level 5 informed us that Swayzak infected TOM. Doubles as Oh, Crap!.
- Put on a Bus: Swayzak isn't seen after this, aside from a cameo in SARA's review of Rez, but the official Toonami Tumblr hints at him returning.
- Shout-Out: The game was reminiscent of Descent and Star Fox.
