WMG / Gotham Knights (2023)

Go To

Turner Hayes really did kill Bruce.
He hired the other teens to break in so he could frame them, and when evidence starts pointing to him anyway he teams up with them to help cover his tracks. The fact that he's a Canon Foreigner means the writers can pull a plot like this off, since there would be an uproar if they had Jason or Damian pull something like that. As for the motivation:
  • He really was just after the money.
    • At this point, it seems pretty clear he wasn't responsible, unless he's one heck of an actor.
      • Jossed

Turner Hayes will be reminiscent to John Blake from The Dark Knight Rises.
Turner Hayes is a complete original character while taking cues from the first three Robins like Detective John Blake from The Dark Knight Rises. Like all of them, he's an adopted ward of Batman. Much like Jason, he comes from a terrible part of Gotham called Burnside, and presumed troubled childhood. He's a skilled athlete who bore witness to his parent's deaths much like Dick Grayson, and fiercely intelligent like Tim Drake.
  • Being a more original character, he may take on a different identity than Robin, considering that Carrie Kelley has taken on the mantle.

Carrie is Bruce and Selina's daughter in this continuity.
It would explain why she has a Catwoman-themed outfit in her first appearance.
  • This doesn't seem to be the case, unless she's adopted.
  • Jossed there’s no proof she was adopted.

Carrie will take up the Robin mantle by the end of the first season.
She was introduced as Robin in The Dark Knight Returns before becoming Cat Girl in The Dark Knight Strikes Again. After the events of the first season she'll gain the blessing of someone else in the bat family to assume the role.
  • Subverted: The trailer didn't make it clear, but she's already Robin at the start of the series.

Where the rest of the Bat Family is:
  • Dick Grayson/Nightwing:
    • Working in Bludhaven and unaware of Bruce's death until late in the season.
  • Jason Todd/Red Hood:
    • Still presumed dead.
  • Barbara Gordon/Batgirl/Oracle:
    • The series will be set after her paralysis, and she won't take up the mantle again during it. She may eventually serve as the mission control for the new Bat-Team, as she did during the Batgirl (2009) run.
    • At least partially jossed; the show ends without any of them being mentioned, though it's possible they're still out there.

Duela will turn out to be Harvey Dent's daughter.
In her earliest appearances, she took on the "Joker's Daughter" moniker (as well as pretending to be the "daughter" of numerous other Batman foes), but was ultimately revealed to be the daughter of Harvey Dent/Two-Face engaging in a convoluted scheme to join the Teen Titans so she could make up for her father's crimes. Here, it'll likely be revealed that her mother was a past fling of Dent's who never told him she was pregnant, thus preserving the twist for those unfamiliar with her history (or who are only familiar with her psycho cult leader "New 52" iteration).
  • Confirmed; "Daddy Issues" reveals that Harvey is Duela's true father.

Bruce isn't dead.
No matter what kind of hard evidence they present us with, by the end of the season it'll turn out that Batman's death was faked by either one of his enemies or Bruce himself. If the latter, it's so that he could investigate the Court from the shadows while they assume he's out of the way.
  • The dead Bruce could be Hush, or perhaps Clayface.
  • Given that he's the World's Greatest Detective, he figured out that Cressida was a traitor and that the Court of Owls was going to make an attempt on his life soon, so he made it looks like they were successful. Assuming Cressida wasn't in on his plan.
  • If this is the case, Cressida could well be a double agent, either recruited by Bruce as part of his investigation into the Court or placed by the Court and turned by him later.
  • Episode 8 seemingly josses the idea of Cressida being a double agent, though it's still possible Bruce is alive.

The Court of Owls killed Turner's parents.
Nothing has been revealed about his family before their deaths, but it's possible they were philanthropists or activists who were on the cusp of exposing the Court, so they were taken out before they could. This act could also be what prompted Bruce to start investigating them to begin with, and why he kept Turner so far away from his secret life.

Stephanie is a part of the Court of Owls and framed Turner.
As she's able to hack into "all the banks in Gotham" at the same time, presumably she could be able to hack in and make the transfers happen and she framed Turner for the funds being transferred. She's also a part of the Court of Owls, possibly the child of Cressida or one of the other members.
  • The implication is that she was only able to do it by using the Bat-computer. Still doesn't rule it out, though.
    • Super Jossed She’s 100% on the Gotham Knights side to the point where the Court also wants her dead too.

The Batman in this universe is an inept rookie.
This version of Batman is a clumsy amateur who probably got lucky a few times. This Bruce never had the smarts, skills, and training as main comic Batman.

This show is set on the same world as Superman & Lois
And there will be a crossover at some point.
  • Sam Lane said Superman was that world's only hero, but it's possible that Bruce had died by that point.
    • Word of God is that Sam was only talking about superpowered heroes. There's no Flash but there was a Green Arrow and possibly other vigilantes.

The Gotham Academy cast will make an appearance at some point.
Olive Silverlock has already gotten a mention, with Turner and Stephanie apparently knowing her, so it's possible that she could at least make an appearance.

Harvey's connection to Lincoln March's wife; Rebecca.
Both are rather acquainted with one another to a capacity and had engaged in an affair. It's likely that she's based off major love interests of Harvey's; Janice Porter and Gilda Gold.

Talon is, or once was, a member of the League of Assassins.
His hundred-plus years of life may be due to a dip or two in a Lazarus Pit. Meaning Ra's al-Ghul may turn up later in this series.
  • Turns out his longevity is actually due to a treatment with "electrum" (never mind that in real life, electrum is a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver that doesn't have magical properties and can be found or produced without digging up a meteorite).
    • Not mutually exclusive— a large sunken deposit of a radioactive space-rock alloy plus a reservoir of natural groundwater equals a Lazarus Pit. Also, note the Meaningful Name of the doctor who discovered this miracle: Leviticus.

Turner is also the son of a Batman villain.
Potentially Hush. He also looks enough like Cameron Monaghan to be the son of the Joker. This is the secret Carrie hid from him in Bruce's journal.

Turner's biological parents died because Bruce screwed up.
And Bruce adopted him out of guilt. This is the secret Carrie hid from him in Bruce's journal.
  • 1x09 seems to imply this, though the Head of the Court isn't exactly a reliable narrator.
  • Jossed at the end of the series

Turner really is Bruce's biological son.
And the Court of Owls wants him for some kind of ritual needing the blood of the Waynes (not unlike Galavan wanted Bruce for in Gotham). This is the secret Carrie hid from him in Bruce's journal.

The little girl is immortal.
She was one of the last people to get a shot of electrum before the Talon, possibly one of Dr Leviticus's test subjects. She exhibits Troubling Unchildlike Behavior and is the only child seen at the Court meeting. Not even Brody appears to be in on it.
