Funny / Gotham Knights (2023)

Go To

Pilot

  • Duela, about Bruce Wayne's office: "This place looks like a museum had sex with a bank vault."
  • Duela's idea of creating a distraction is to try and ineffectually pick her handcuffs in full view of the armed guards.
  • After Carrie shows up for her Big Damn Heroes moment, rescuing Turner, Duela, Cullen and Harper from being murdered by Ford, Turner blurts out that he recognizes her from class.

Scene of the Crime

  • As the gang raids a store for new clothing, Turner insists that they're only borrowing things.
  • Duela comments that Stephanie can rock a skirt. While holding a knife to her throat.

Under Pressure

Of Butchers and Betrayals

  • The team learns that the Butcher of Gotham had a daughter, Eunice Harmon, who changed her name to Eunice Monroe. They're baffled that she only changed her last name.

More Money, More Problems

  • Harper and Duela tease Stephanie over her habit of trying to use hacking to solve all her problems, despite the fact that she already almost got caught once.
Harper: So which one of your boy-toys is taking the fall for that?
Duela: Ooh, I hope he's as cute as the last one!
  • Everyone absolutely drags Harper for dating a mobster named Dylan McKillen (and in Duela's case, it's hard to tell whether she's more revolted by the idea of her dating a mobster, or just his ridiculous rhyming name).
  • Turner's idea of a stealthy entrance is to run up to the guard and clock him in the face (which is even funnier given how proficient his dad was at them).
  • Stealing the McKillen ledger is simple enough, except that the gang takes their eyes off of Duela for more than five seconds. They find her with a massive pallet of money and a very large grin on her face. And then she and Cullen start gleefully grabbing at the cash.
  • In order to escape the McKillens, the gang tosses all their stolen cash from their truck drawing crowds of people into the streets. Naturally, Duela hates this and throws a tantrum over it.
"You are literally throwing money away!"
    • They're almost done when they see Duela clutching the last bag to her chest with "No, no, this one is mine!" and screaming when they forcibly pull it away from her. It's very reminiscent of a little kid having their favorite stuffed toy get taken away.

A Chill in Gotham

  • Of course, Duela is a fan of Joe Chill.
Duela: He's like the patron saint of bad guys.
Harper: I don't think you know what "patron saint" means.

Bad to Be Good

  • Duela says the hardest part of stealing the car meant for Gotham Academy's Driver's Ed class was "figuring out which steering wheel to hot-wire."
  • Carrie finds out that Duela kidnapped Eunice Munroe and is roped into helping Duela interrogate her.
    • Carrie's reaction when Duela mentions that if Eunice behaves, she won't taze her again is hilarious.
Carrie: YOU TAZED A SENIOR CITIZEN?!
Duela: It was on the lowest setting!
    • Eunice accuses Duela of deliberately going over a speed bump. Repeatedly.
    • In general, Duela and Carrie being a strangely effective good cop-bad cop team is fantastic.
  • Harper's idea of seeking out intel is to go seek out Dylan... who, as it turns out, has been going to therapy for his anger management issues.
  • Stephanie insists that anything can be a word if you hyphenate it properly.
  • "I got shivved with a ballerina!"
  • As Turner and Cullen search through the Kane warehouse, Cullen complains that Turner's great-great-grandfather had terrible taste in art.
  • Duela notes the Court's super-healing serum, which she'd like some of as "stigmata is not a good look for me."
  • As with Batwoman (2019), somehow The Penguin was elected mayor of Gotham City in the past.
  • Only on this show could this be seen as Heartwarming dialogue.
Turner: Just because you did a good deed doesn't make you a good person.
    Duela: Thanks.

Belly of the Beast

Dark Knight of the Soul

  • Stephanie chews out the team for leaving Turner behind.
Duela: Hey, blondie, I'm with you in the choir so preach to these heathens!

Poison Pill

  • After Turner impulsively kisses Stephanie, she comments that she always expected that a kiss between them would be more special, but it didn't make her feel any different than kissing Brody. Turner chooses to take it as a win that at least Brody wasn't a better kisser.

Daddy Issues

  • The morning after sleeping together, Turner and Duela have very different approaches to the fallout, with Turner trying to play it cool in front of Cullen while Duela is only too happy to give a horrified Harper all the details about what it's like to "ride the bat-wang" all over the library.
Harper: You realize I read those books?
  • The Rows take one look at the situation and just say "Carrie." They call her but her mom tells them she's grounded so Cullen goes to find her.
Harper: Come on, you're going to leave me with Horny and Hornier?
    Cullen: Wear headphones.
  • Duela drags Turner to a bar, where he assumes they're just going to drink and blow off some steam. It turns out that they're actually there to meet Duela's mom Jane Doe, a dangerous criminal who just got out of Arkham Asylum. He goes from admiring the crazy lady threatening a handsy guy to an Oh, Crap! expression when Duela says who she is.
  • For Duela's birthday, Jane decided to do something special by kidnapping Harvey Dent. And then repeatedly flirting with him and talking about how much he still turns her on. Duela is not at all pleased at the thought of her mom having the hots for Harvey.
  • Harvey himself is absolutely baffled by all this as he has no memory of ever being with Jane so her various flirting on their past goes over his head.
  • The fact that the Court of Owls coin (which usually symbolizes that the recipient is about to die) actually saved Harvey's life is kinda funny.

City of Owls

  • Cullen dressing up in his police officer costume and using it as an opportunity to pick Lincoln March's pocket.
Harvey: Did you get what you were after?
    Cullen: Absolutely.
Harvey: Do I want to know what you're going to use it for?
    Cullen: Absolutely not.
  • Duela, upon seeing that Brody has joined the team while she was away: "You replaced me with a jock?"
  • Carrie, upon seeing that the president of Gotham Academy is a member of the Court of Owls: "That completely tracks."

Night of the Owls

  • The gang tries to explain what has really happened to the police officers interviewing them, and understandably, the story of immortal assassins and space rocks comes out as sounding utterly ridiculous.
  • Duela calls up the gang to talk of Harvey's alternate persona killing his dad, knocking up her mom and sleeping with Rebecca. "Sorry, I'm on a clock here."
  • Harper discovers there's a bomb that will set off all the other bombs in Gotham.
Harper: Uh, OK, wait, hold on. Based on these signals, all of the bombs are connected to one, the "mother" bomb.
Cullen: Please tell me it's just nurturing and slightly overbearing.
