SpellCast is a word game developed by FRVR and published by Discord via the app's "Activities" menu within voice chat.

The gameplay is similar to other games like Boggle and Bookworm: players are given a 5x5 grid of letters and must connect them to form words, with more points given for more complex words. The game also features an Adventure Mode campaign with 50 levels.

SpellCast contains examples of the following tropes:

  • CamelCase: It's SpellCast, not "Spellcast" or "Spell Cast".
  • Cap: Each player can only have up to 10 gems at a time, after which any additional gems earned will be discarded.
  • The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard: In some Adventure Mode levels, the computer gets to play multiple turns in a row, with the scores from each one being added together.
  • Double-Meaning Title: SpellCast is a magic-themed game about spelling words.
  • Gimmick Level: Some Adventure Mode levels include "enchantments" which tweak certain aspects of the gameplay, such as giving a bonus to certain letters or words, or restricting some tiles from being used.
  • Hint System: The player can spend four gems to get a suggestion from the game for a word to play.
  • Literal Wild Card: A player can spend three gems to replace any tile on the board with any letter of their choice.
  • Luck Manipulation Mechanic: The player can spend a single gem to shuffle all of the tiles currently on the board.
  • Premium Currency: In Adventure Mode, there are two currencies which can be used to purchase power-ups: gems (which can easily be obtained in individual games) and coins (a global, nonrenewable resource that can only be obtained by earning stars for each level for the first time).
  • Pun: The award for getting the highest-scoring individual play is named "Letterrate"note .
  • Robe and Wizard Hat: The main mascot of the game is a wizard-like character dressed in a pointed hat and a short cloak, both in purple.
  • Score Multiplier: Letters on the board labelled "DL"note  or occasionally "TL"note  are worth either twice or thrice as much as they would normally. If a letter is highlighted in pink, it indicates that any word that contains it will have all of its letters doubled in score. The double word bonus moves around randomly each new round, while the letter bonus stays in the same spot until it is claimed. In Adventure Mode, the player can buy potions which manually place double word, triple letter, or triple word bonuses on a tile of their choice.
  • Shadowed Face, Glowing Eyes: The main mascot's face is completely obscured, with the sole exception of a pair of glowing white eyes.
  • Speedrun Reward: The "Fast and Furious" award at the end of the game goes to the player who had the fastest round.
  • Timed Mission: During a player's turn, the other players can choose to activate a timer, forcing them to act before time runs out. The player must either make their play before time runs out or spend one gem to reset the timer; otherwise, they will lose their turn.
