Sky Kid is a side-scrolling flight shooting arcade game from The Golden Age of Video Games developed and published by Namco and released to arcades in 1985. It was the first Namco game to offer two-player co-op.

In the game the players take the role of the titular Sky Kids, Red Baron and Blue Max. In each level they must fly in their biplanes to bomb assigned targets in every mission. Since their planes don't have a bomb, they must be sure to pick up a bomb on their way to each target. Along the way they must dodge a flurry of bullets from ground and air targets. They also must fly the plane to avoid obstacles while flying over inhospitable terrain and cities.

Originally released to Japanese arcades, the game later received a home port for Nintendo Entertainment System worldwide.

Tropes:

  • Company Cross References: Sometimes if the player does a loop-de-loop around a billboard, one of four Namco characters will appear, Pac-Man or Inky from Pac-Man, the Special Flag from Rally-X, or Pooka from Dig Dug.
  • Easter Egg: Apart from the character appearances on the billboards, shooting the girls that appear dancing at the end of every stage will cause them to turn into pink powder puffs and dogs. Looping around them makes them blow out hearts.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Red Baron & Blue Max are repsectively references to Manfred von Richthofen, the famous World War I flying ace, and the prestigious order Pour le Mérite who was known as "Blue Max" informally.
  • Nuke 'em: The goal of the game is to bomb target areas of each stage.
  • Projectile Kiss: The girls at the end of the stage blow kisses if the players loop around them.
