No Plot. No Story. No Motive. Escape your Confinement. Do it Fast. - Tagline

The Afro-Ninja Escape games are a Room Escape Game series, in which you are trapped in a strange location and must escape as fast as possible.

The Afro-Ninja Escape games include:

  • Everyone Knows Morse: In Escape the Shack, a lighthouse is flashing SOS in Morse, and the player must decode a response to transmit using a telegraph.
  • Game Within a Game: Letter Drop in the third game, and an elevator game in the seventh.
  • Hint System: In the Phone Booth, dialing CALLME4HELP grants access to the "Afro-Ninja Escape Hotline", which gives you a hint for this game as well as the two before it.
  • Locked in a Freezer: In the fifth game, hence the title. It's also the only entry that is a true Timed Mission, as hypothermia is setting in and your body heat is being tracked.
  • Medium Blending: Escape the Bathroom includes a live-action video prologue, featuring developer Shawn Tanner being trapped in a real bathroom with the game's timer and cursor overtop, along with similar arbitrary puzzles. At one point, the cursor drags Shawn by the hand before he punches it out of frame. The ending reveals the whole thing to be a dream Shawn had at his desk, which inspires him to use it for the game's title.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: Spelled out by the opening text, although there is the occasional background fluff pertaining to where you are.
  • Once an Episode: Starting from the second game, a cryptic poem serves as a clue for at least one puzzle in every game onwards.
  • Shout-Out: Two in the Phone Booth.
  • Timed Mission: Subverted: Every entry has a timer counting up for how long you take to finish, but there's no threat for taking too long except for the fifth episode. Episode 2.5 has a broken timer, and its ticking sound can be muted from the third game onward.
