- All-Star Cast: Including Dudley Moore, Laraine Newman, James Coco, Paul Sand, Jack Gilford, Dom DeLuise, John Houseman, Madeline Kahn, David Lander, Richard Pryor, and John Ritter.
- Follow the Leader: One of several films shamelessly following in the footsteps of Monty Python's 1979 hit Life of Brian, with its spoofing of religion and/or Biblical epics; others included Marty Feldman's televangelist spoof In God We Tru$t and the Ancient Rome segment of Mel Brooks's History of the World Part I. This one's generally seen as the most inept of the bunch, though, and it's certainly the most obvious imitator.
- Star-Derailing Role: Averted for Dudley Moore. This was his first film after his international breakout in Ten, and actually opened well at the box office, but it still lost about $2.5 million when all was said and done. The aversion is that his next film — Arthur (1981) — ended up being a bigger hit than anyone could have anticipated.
- Wag the Director: After showing up very late, Richard Pryor reportedly re-wrote/improvised most of the dialogue for his cameo as The Pharaoh, along with refusing to have a trained lion on the set with him.
