Trivia / Trail of the Pink Panther

Go To

  • Deleted Role: Dulcie Gray filmed a cameo, but her part was removed in post-production.
  • In Memoriam: This movie is dedicated to Peter Sellers and was marketed as a tribute to him. The dedication states: "To Peter...the one and only Inspector Clouseau."
  • Looping Lines: David Niven's voice was so weak that professional celebrity impressionist Rich Little was hired to dub Niven's voice.
  • The Other Darrin: Zig-zagged. While David Niven reprises his role as Sir Charles Litton, his voice is dubbed over by Rich Little due to Niven's early-stage ALS causing his voice to be incomprehensible during post-production.
  • Role Reprise: In addition to David Niven, Capucine returns as Simone and Graham Stark returns as Hercule La Joy. In an unusual example, Harvey Korman plays Prof. Auguste Balls for technically the second time, as he was cut out of The Pink Panther Strikes Again.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Peter Sellers' "performance" was in such bad taste that his widow sued MGM for defamation, and won. That the lawsuit revealed that Sellers and his estate vetoed any use of prior footage of him as Clouseau before his death didn't help.
  • Uncredited Role: Julie Andrews has an unbilled cameo as a cleaning lady, dressed as her friend Carol Burnett's charwoman character.
