Trivia / The Wonky Angle

  • Creator Backlash:
    • Tommy eventually decided to phase out the Best and Worst pop hits of the year, as he found that he wasn't really enjoying doing them anymore, and that they clashed heavily with the rest of his channel.
    • Tommy admits to not being a fan of his review of Eric Prydz's Opus, as he felt that he didn't do enough research on Prydz before covering him, resulting in some fan backlash that resulted in him making a follow-up video.
    • He also doesn't look back fondly on his original review of Funk Wav Bounces Volume 1 by Calvin Harris, as he felt he was too lenient with the album's criticism in hindsight.
    • Tommy noted on Twitter that he dislikes his review of Clarity by Zedd, as the video was unscripted and featured way too much rambling for his liking (in part because his brother appears on it to talk about the album).
    • In his 15k subscriber Q&A video, Tommy noted that he really regrets his Tomorrow's Harvest review in his Boards of Canada discography review series, particularly one moment where he ironically uses a homophobic slur while making up a pretentious elitist who would dislike the band. Tommy even resorted to turning off monetization on the video due to his embarrassment, and noted that the person he made up would've actually had valid points in their criticism.
    • In the same video, Tommy noted that he felt much of his videos in the 2016/17 era had very poor writing filled with insecurity.
    • Another review that Tommy dislikes is the one he did of Spirit by Depeche Mode. He finds the video to be practically unwatchable due to his shallow writing and attempt to rush through any of the political themes the album had due to his discomfort at the time in talking about them so soon after the 2016 election.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Tommy was a big fan of Spectrum Pulse's reviews before becoming a music critic himself. Not only would Mark end up giving Tommy some shout outs in some of his videos, they would also end up collaborating to discuss The Chemical Brothers' ninth studio album No Geography. Additionally, Mark would later review one of Tommy's electronic albums on an On The Pulse video.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Tommy's first review of Funk Wav Bounces Volume 1 was taken off YouTube in 2022 due to a copyright strike, and was made permanently unviewable on the site. This resulted in Tommy having to put up a copy of it on Vimeo for preservation purposes.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: As mentioned above Tommy's original review on Funk Wav Bounces Volume 1 got stricken from the channel due to a copyright claim, and due to some misunderstanding on how to handle the claim, accidentally made it so that he could no longer take action against it. As such he decided to upload a redux review instead.
