Trivia / The Huckleberry Hound Show

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Daws Butler and Don Messick did all of the character voices.
  • Adored by the Network: This show was a staple on Boomerang in the 2000s and early 2010s, airing very frequently. But when more Cartoon Network originals from the 90s and 2000s began creeping onto Boomerang's schedule, this show was mostly pushed to watershed hours. It was removed entirely in June 2014.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera's favorite episodes of this show were "Huckleberry Hound Meets Wee Willie", "Spud Dud", "Science Friction", "Knight School" and "Legion-Bound Hound".
  • Crossdressing Voices: Don Messick did the majority of the female voices in the earlier cartoons, usually voicing rather unattractive-looking women (such as the ugly Damsel in Distress in "Sir Huckleberry Hound"). Daws Butler did a few occasional small girl voices.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Only the first season was released on DVD, with the later three seasons still in limbo. Unfortunately, this also means 13 Yogi Bear segments aren't available on home video since they were part of Huckleberry Hound's second season. At least the Boomerang recordings are still circulating online.
  • No Budget: As with so many other Hanna-Barbera cartoons, the budget for Huckleberry Hound was tiny, around $6,000 per short (even in 1958 that was paltry). Compare that to the last Tom & Jerry shorts Hanna and Barbera made for MGM a couple years earlier, which had budgets of close to $60,000!
