  • Author's Saving Throw: In an attempt to appease critics and visitors who have become adverse to the park as a result of the controversy surrounding the death of Dawn Brancheau and the Blackfish documentary, SeaWorld would attempt to invoke this by announcing the end of their orca breeding program (making the current generation the last), as well as shifting away from pure theatrics for their Orca shows in favor of a more educational focus that places more emphasis on their natural abilities.
  • Development Hell:
    • The proposed SeaWorld in Dubai has remained in development for many years now, with still no word as to whether or not it will ever come to fruition.
    • All of the chain's new for 2020 attractions (with the exception of Texas Stingray) didn't open until early 2022, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
  • Genre-Killer: The whole idea of captive orca shows became incredibly unpopular after Dawn Brancheau's death, to the point SeaWorld won't be replacing their current orcas, and closing down the attractions after their deaths.
  • Milestone Celebration: The San Diego park celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014 with a variety of new entertainment additions.
  • Similarly Named Works: There's a marine park in Australia also named "Sea World," though it bears no relation to these parks.
  • What Could Have Been: SeaWorld was originally conceived as a restaurant with an accompanying marine show.
